Unsure what to expect in "Basingstoke",but came upon this bright clean hotel close to the city centre.....definitely worth recommending.
Bright airy reception area,very courteous staff,and easy check in.
Stairs very close to first floor...Open door to room and WOW......what a great room.Large expansive,well laid out with a large ensuite bathroom.
The only letdown was the fact that there was no view out the window...brickwork from another building..

I Live in Basingstoke & had never stayed here before now, but as a friend had come to stay during my Birthday Weekend I thought I’d stay there too! The Red Lion Hotel has been in Basingstoke for many years & it’s location is perfect if, like us, you want a convenient place for the town or for the pubs/clubs which is right on the doorstep. The room was warm & welcoming & for the hotel’s age it was decent. Unfortunately the view was of a brick wall but, if you don’t know Basingstoke, you won’t miss much in the immediate surrounds 😂😂😂
As I was a guest in the same room I fully expected to pay for my breakfast over the 2 night stay, but was pleasantly surprised when I was told it was free! The Breakfast & the Guy hosting it on the Sunday Morning (5th November 2017) could not be faulted & overall the stay was fantastic. Your really can’t complain at a double room at £66 a night.

We recently visited Basingstoke and stayed over night here. The hotel is right in the town centre which was perfect for a night out. The hotel is a bit tired but clean. The breakfast was buffet style, plentiful and tasty. All the staff were pleasant and helpful. We did have an issue with the room kettle but it was immediately changed. Free parking was a bonus. Good value for money.

We didn't have high expectations of a town centre hotel in Basingstoke for an overnight stay. However we were pleasantly surprised. The Red Lion Hotel is very conveniently located near to the Rail Station. It was clean, the room more than adequately sized, the Reception and Restaurant staff friendly and very helpful and overall excellent value for money. If we ever have to stay in Basingstoke again, we would have no hesitation in booking this hotel.

Dear All,
Spent 4 nights in this hotel, and was very pleased with the room and locality. Bed and fittings within the room were of high standard. The bed was comfortable with good linen.
Shower room was nicely sized with large waterfall type shower and good sized towels.
Slight downsides - small lift, and a general requirement for a face lift. Had a bowl of soup and this was poor. Although the rest of the meal was excellent.
Location of the hotel is excellent, 5 mins to the Festival shopping centre and associated items
