What People are saying

Simple, basic, friendly with a lovely view!

Katherine B on 22/06/2015 21:29

We stayed here for 2 nights on a surprise birthday road-trip along the coasts of France and Italy. Albenga itself is nothing to write home about particularly but the old town is nice for a wander for a couple of hours. The hotel itself is on the outskirts of town, right on the beach. The hotel is simple and feels slightly like going back in time but we loved our stay and would go back if we were passing. It's not a 2 week destination type place for us, but it was perfect for a few nights as part of a wider trip and we were a bit sad to leave after only 2 days! Could have stayed another night. The room was simple, clean and big, with lots of space. The bed was big and very comfortable (very firm mattress) and we spent a lot of time on the balcony eating, drinking, enjoying the view which is what we loved the most - right on the beach staring at the sea. The old-fashioned stuff was having to pay for everything as extras that you'd normally get as part of your stay in most hotels we're used to - wifi is extra, the kitchen in your room is extra (once opened by electronic key-card you start paying a day rate), sun beds on the beach (decent ones, not the freebie deck-chairs they gave us at the back with no view other than the posh chairs at the front!), room cleaning, parking is limited and you have to pre-book and pay etc. etc. We're happy with self-catering and the kitchen had the basics but you'll need washing up liquid, salt, pepper, olive oil from the supermarket. Likewise ice is a problem, supermarkets don't sell it and the hotel doesn't have an ice-machine, so we had to find trays and make our own in the fridge that comes with the kitchen. You'll also need beach towels. Bathroom was simple and the shower good. Air con worked very well and was automatic at night. The beach was full of families, lots of which were not residents. Overall the place had a nice chilled vibe, although one night was horribly noisy with guys shouting and boozing into the early hours which wasn't great, especially as no one tried to quieten them down. Made for a poor night's sleep. The other thing to be aware of is that whilst the beach is one side of the hotel the train line is the other and it's unavoidable in terms of noise. That said, once we got over the surprise of hearing it (we live in a small village with no trains, planes or cars!) it wasn't too bad...just a shock if you're not expecting it. Breakfast was great (and included in our deal), big spread, help yourself., choice of sitting inside or out and the restaurant staff were super helpful and friendly.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure but for us it was a great escape from busy working lives for a few days, reminded us that life can be simpler!

Beach Bar Onda

Frank N on 03/08/2014 13:03

We were not staying in the hotel, but at the beach-bar "Onda" for many times. We had some snacks, beer and longdrinks. For Italian measures, the drinks are expencive (7€ for a Cuba Libre), but you pay for the excellent ambiente directly on the sea. Sometimes, the staff was kind of overwhelmed with complex drinks or large orders. Some of them are not very friendly and do not speak english.

Regarding that, it was a pleasure to meet Giovanna! She's a very friendly and professional bartender, makes wonderful drinks - always with a smile. Thanks to her, we had perfect hours at the beach bar.

A nice hotel.

Not worth visiting

EmmyVenray on 09/05/2014 13:22

Albenga is really not worth visiting, it is an ugly town, that once might have been nice. Hotel is not far from the centrum of the cit, however, since there is train railing on one side and you have to pass abondent buildings, I as women was afraid to walk even during the day, because of the people hanging around the abonded buildings. Beaches are divided, so that you cann't walk more than 500meters along the beacht, wich was relly pity. Buleavard was also uglly.
Hotel is really dated, though clean, but they haven't changed nothing since the 70ies and you have to pay extra for everything, beach chairs, roomcleaningm, etc. Appartmants are not appropriatly equiped. No value for money.

WONDERFUL LOCATION A BIT EXPENSIVE

ZAMY73 on 24/01/2012 07:44

The residence is directly on the beach with a very nice outside pool and a private parking.
Each studio has his own big balcony facing the sea a nd the "Gallinara"so you'll can enjoy unforgettable sunsets just outside your room.
Buffet breakfast is very good but you have to find some discounted price cause their pricelist is in my opinion, expensive ( I mean you don't get wath you pay for ).
Try to avoid "standard studios" and book the "superior" if you don't wanna sleep in old, unconfortable sofa bed !!!
