We stayed at the Rimping Village for 5 days. For the money it's a great hotel with clean, big spacious rooms(we had a Rimping Deluxe).The pool was great and never very busy. We were there in off season though. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was great, with all tastes catered for. It is a short walk over the bridge(10 minutes) to the old city wall but really not long enough for it to be a problem. In fact, we found it a bonus as you feel that you are more part of the local community, with a local market nearby, worth a look. It's not a flashy hotel but would recommend staying here.

Our 3 night stay at Rimping Village was wonderful. The staff were lovely and our room (rimping delux) was spacious and close to the pool and dining room. The free afternoon deserts and snacks were lovely to have in the dining area or by the pool. The area around is quiet but its only a 10 minute walk to the night bazaar and restaurants.

I had a party of 11 - 7 adults and 4 kids. We got 3 rooms & the versatility of the rooms was great. we were able to comfortably accommodate 3 adults & 2 kids (9yo) in the family room; 2 adults and 2 kids (6, 8 yo) in the Deluxe room.
The staff is very pleasant - always ready with a smile and a 'sawasdee khap'. The sole exception is a gent in the Reception (who maybe reads too much Nietzsche).
The location is very near the Iron Bridge and ergo a 10min walk from the Night market area. There is a money changer on the way to the night market - so that helps too.
The hotel restaurant is adequate & there are some good restaurants around the night market area, including the Hard Rock cafe.
The rooms are a bit old, but I did not have any complaints.
The hotel have cycles that guests can borrow at no cost; in case one feels like a quick spin around the locality.

Moved over here after a week at the Shangri-la (for work). Definitely noticed the change, but found this just as comfortable. RVH had a chilled vibe on the local side of the river, easy walk up the alley and across the iron bridge into the night markets and night life. Enjoyed the local supermarket fully stocked and modern and S&P coffee, omelette with pork and pastries (all at Rimping Village Shops). All in all a great local feel compared to the other side of the river. A word about the Iron Bridge - most nights and esp Fri/Sat/Sun this is a local hangout for the youth of Chiang Mai - who are drinking a beer or two and taking selfies. All fairly harmless, but there were a couple older shady dudes about, so just recommend keeping alert - and if you've had a few too many Singhas then that 100B tuk tuk might be a bargain.

Location was quiet, just a short walk down an alleyway to the main road on the east side of the Ping River - then across either of the two bridges (or catch a tuk-tuk or mini-bus) to the markets and old city temples.
Great location (20 minute walk from the Tha Phae Gate) and great value. Staff were very helpful in arranging massages and other short notice activities. Would highly recommend!
