Mirandus Restaurant - Lunch

We came upon this special restaurant thanks to a casual recommendation from South African friends who are retired in Lagos. What a special find. Firstly the location - see the photos. Simply stunning particularly as we were lucky to be able to eat outside on the glorious terrace in November! We ate lunch here twice and both times the food was beautiful. Fine dining in this area needs to be worth the price given the amazing food which is otherwise so widely available. In my view this is. On both occasions I had a dish of seared scallops and pineapple on a bed of coriander butter risotto sprinkled with a little coconut. Exceptional. My Partner also had a lamb dish which was cooked and presented to perfection followed by dessert - photo. This is local fine Dining - excellent ingredients combined, cooked and presented by a chef who is clearly utterly dedicated to precision with a real flair and imagination. We will be back on our next visit. And finally thank you to our lovely waitress Dena who, on both visits, could not have been more attentive or charming.
Beautiful hotel

The grounds are beautiful! The rooms are beautiful. However, we would never go back. The service was non-existence. I am unable to determine if this is due to rudeness or incompetence. While here, you ask if there is anyone managing the facility. Strange, strange...and very unlike the rest of our Portuguese experience.
Fantastic Family Holiday

The food was amazing and the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The sea views from the gardens are spectacular and there is a great beach just minutes away fun for all the family. It's in a prime location to explore the Algarve coast. Would definitely go again !
What a View!

Although the hotel is a bit difficult to find, once you arrive and see the view from the patio, you are hooked. Spectacular! Our plan had been to walk, drive or cab into downtown Lagos and eat dinner near the water. However, after seeing the view from Vivenda Miranda, the set up of lounge chairs, pool and complete zen like feeling, we decided to just veg out at this hotel for our 2 day stay. We were very disappointed in our room, which was supposed to be a sea view but you could only see the sea if my 6'2" husband stood on his tiptoes and looked over the bushes. However, upon check out, the hotel had decided that they could not in good conscience charge us for a sea view room and amended our bill accordingly. We ate all of our meals in the hotel and were not disappointed in the food. Breakfast was delicious along with the buffet you could order eggs done any way you wanted. Lunch was equally as good. Dinner was excellent and it was lovely to be able to sit and eat outside under the stars. It did get a little cool, but we were offered light blankets to put around us so we could stay outdoors. The only problem with dinner was the wait staff who seemed to forget about us both evenings. The first evening, after we had our main course and glass of wine, no one came to offer us more wine, coffee or even a dessert menu. We finally got up from the table and someone came quickly over with our bill. The second night the same thing happened but we were able to get a waiter to notice us and we got dessert and coffee. However, even with the disappointing room and slow wait staff, this is a beautiful hotel with a magical setting.
Spectacular setting but...

Spent a week with a few inclusive meals, yoga and spa treatments.
What a setting, we really enjoyed the stay, but this has to be judged by standards of a pretty expensive hotel, and it falls short.
We really enjoyed all the spa sesssions, the staff seemed very experienced and passionate about the massage/ Ayurveda massage/reflexology. Yoga instructor was excellent, for a mix of beginners and more advanced, in small morning classes.
The hotel staff are all very pleasant and, in keeping with the chilled atmosphere, laid back in approach. Unfortunately at times this verges on inattention/neglect. We expressed interest twice in purchasing Neals Yards products to be told that the other staff member may be better to advise. Not sure who this was, it wasn't followed up, and we gave up asking, despite walking past a cabinet of products everyday.
I would often have to ask the restaurant staff twice for tea, eggs, beer....on one occasion it took three requests. Second requests answered as if I hadn't asked before. Just write the orders down please!!
If wine and water is to be placed on a table away from the diners then glasses should be refilled by the staff. I had to do the serving on more than one occasion. Would rather have the bottles left on our table to help ourselves without getting up.
If there is a pool menu for food and drinks then have staff circulating for requests... would provide good service and may sell more drinks! Especially as pool wear is not really permitted in the restaurant, although it has to be tolerated for orders to be placed.
The food is excellent. Unfortunately the inclusive dinners had a very restrictive menu, two choices for starter and main, one for dessert. I simply don't see the reason for this. It is a small hotel but the dinner orders are made in the morning so surely a better choice would be possible.
None of this spoiled our enjoyment of a chill out week, but having now seen the cost on checkout we have reflected a bit on the experience.
