What People are saying

Little gem

John G on 20/11/2017 09:06

We visited the hotel for a three night break in November. The staff were friendly and the food is exceptional. The dinner was a delight and breakfast superb. We stayed in a superior room which was large and comfortable. If I have any criticism it is that despite being an old substantial building the room walls appear to be thin and the noise from the next room was slightly intrusive. We could clearly hear their TV and bathroom activity !!! It's a short stroll into the main beautiful village of Ambleside (from where there are a number of walks) we recommend a look at the waterfalls just a short walk away and then on up to Wansfell Pile from there if you feel energetic. Fantastic views over the lake from there. Sadly no views of the lake from the hotel but it's just round the corner. We will be visiting again and I can recommend this hotel.

Afternoon Tea.

Ann B on 20/11/2017 00:39

Really disappointed - Last time my mum and I visited there was sliced bread sandwiches, quiche, bought in cakes, scones etc. Help yourself to as much as you liked. It was the best afternoon tea ever.. So this time I treated 5 of us which included 2 elderly in-laws for their birthdays. This time x2 home made bread rolls (very small) which were hard to eat for elderly people and 2 small mouthfuls of x1 rye bread and x1 fricoccia Home made cakes, macaroons, scones and a strange chocolate, merlot and spices shot!!! All presented at the table and no seconds or Personal choice of sandwich fillings.
I cannot recommend this afternoon tea on the basis that is the first time ever I have come away hungry after an afternoon tea and I have not got a huge appetite.
The hotel has changed hands since our last visit.

3 Night Stay

chrismartins290 on 19/11/2017 12:13

What a find! From the warm welcome, to the rooms, food, staff all the way to departure, This place hit the spot!
We decided to get away for a few days and noticed the great reviews, so booked. The recepitionist we spoke to was lovely, helped with directions (don't like those sat nav's), described the rooms perfectly and booked us in with little fuss.
On arrival we was pleased to see the same receptionist, felt like visiting a friend! Quickly processed through and shown to our room.
We stayed in the Conservatory Room, an external room attached to the hotel, just away from the entrance. We had been mentioned this was a newly refurbished room, If this is the quality and standard they are doing in the remaining hotel, your all in for a treat! This is also a dog friendly room, thou we didn't have our little monster with us, i know where i will be staying next time with him.
The Breakfast & Dinner was amazing (see seperate review) a must if your staying! They have a very talented chef and wonderful friendly staff, whom seem to always be on hand to help you out from directing you on walks (i needed a easy stroll) to the local bars etc
This Hotel is great to us, a real pleasure, will be back with the monster! (little yorkie called snuffles.... don't worry)

AN EXCELLENT STAY IN SUCH A RELAXING HOTEL

I found Rothay Manor to be such a delight. It is set in a lovely surrounding with great views. I was made very welcome by all of the staff. I loved the reception area and how it was decorated. The dining room was of the same high standard. The whole hotel is so welcoming. The food is first class, breakfast really sets you up for the day with a good choice of freshly cooked food. This was after sampling the cold buffet. The new chef is very talented and I thought the food in the evening was quite inventive and exactly how I love food to be. You get spoilt with canapes, pre-starters and pre-desserts. I thought the staff were so helpful and cheerful and made my stay so much more delightful. I can't wait for another visit.

Wonderful relaxing stay and fabulous food!

We got exactly what we wanted out of a much needed de-stressing weekend. The food at breakfast and dinner was amazing, could not fault any of it! Hors d’oevres by a cosy fire whilst sipping a delicious local gin was a great start to a delicious dinner in the peaceful restaurant. Our bedroom was large and comfortable with a lovely view. Sure the rooms are not 5 star in decor but I didn’t need that! Service was friendly and efficient and I would happily stay again.
