Unfriendly manager

The hotel reception looks like a hostel, very basic, old fashioned and unclean. signs up everywhere saying what guests can and cannot do. Wi-Fi is available, at a cost, so is parking, at £8 A night. manager is very unprofessional, clearly never worked in hospitality before. don't stay in this hotel, they will certainly be closed down soon
RUN DOWN, UNFRIENDLY, MONEY-GRABBING, MORE RULES THAN A POW CAMP

Arrived in the pay and display car park within the grounds of the hotel. Lots of notices displaying the various charges but being a guest I thought this will not apply to me. WRONG!! £8 thankyou very much, WI-FI, 'Of course sir, that'll be £5 please, oh and we take a refundable £50 deposit in case any damage occurs in the room, oh and we need to photocopy your ID in case we need to trace you in the future'. I felt about as welcome as a turd in a swimming pool! There were notices all over the hotel about what were and were not allowed to do. The Decor was all very tired and grubby round the edges. My single room although spacious with modern en-suite (and no razor socket no shampoo, just a bar of soap) was spoilt by the ripped net curtain and filthy window behind it!
The only plus with this hotel was it's convenient location close to the town centre
Very poor staff communication

Very poor customer service! Staff doesn't inform customer regarding parking when customer decline £8 charge over night when parking can be find for free at 2 mins away from hotel. The sigh stats hotel customer to report at reception, but hotel staff does inform customers that you only have 10mins to offload your luggage. When question is asked, hotel staff states it sign marked all over the hotel, the reality it's marked but on small print at terms and conditions.
Room lights doesn't work properly, need to wiggle the card at the lights holder to make it work. Dirt rooms, broken tiles and missing grout on the floor, mold on bathroom. Air conditioning doesn't work. Won't stay at this place again. I stayed in much better travel hostels , Russel Court should be ashamed to call a HOTEL.
A pleasant experience

Having already booked a night at this hotel, I then read the mainly negative reviews and was fully prepared to forgo the amount I had already paid through Booking.com, on our arrival had it not been up to scratch. Before we checked in I asked to see our room which was 102 on the first floor as I told the receptionist that I had read all the bad reviews. He gave us the key and up we went. Now part of the hotel we walked through was obviously tired but when we entered our room we were pleasantly surprised. The room and the corridor leading up to it had obviously recently been re- furbished and re-decorated. The room was very clean and we had a view of the sea and the pier. The bathroom was pristine, albeit a little on the small side. It also had been re tiled and had a new toilet and washbasin. The grout had not had a chance to become discoloured and the mastic was perfectly clean. There was not a trace of mould anywhere. We were supplied with a bath and a shower over it which was very good and with plenty of very hot water. Our bedroom was quite large and my wife appreciated that the hairdryer was adjacent to the mirror which also had a convenient seat. The room was warm and cosy but there was also an electric fan assisted oil filled radiator in the room. If I was to be picky then the mattress was very soft, when you sat on the bed it went down to the base, but that was not the case when lying on it, in fact it was very comfortable. The bedding was also very clean which other reviews have criticised. The bathroom light came on automatically but did not stay on long without movement which could be disconcerting as there was no window. My other small niggle was that the kettle was a little too large to fit under the bathroom tap. These were my only moans. You have to remember that this is a 2* hotel within 2/3 minutes walk of the seafront in Bournemouth and for the £28 we paid for the night, tremendous value. Would I stay there again? Probably, and I would not be as dubious again now knowing what to expect. I think that you have to read between the lines of all reviews but I hope this has been as honest as I can make it. The staff we encountered were all very pleasant and polite

Stayed here for 4 nights in half term with my 2 children and mum. Loved it, hotel is very clean, lovely fluffy white towels in the bathroom and clean white sheets on the beds. Recommended. Would definitely go again.
