What People are saying

Interesting hotel

Richarddixon2on 31/07/2017 17:18

We had a 1 night stay here and this is very quirky hotel the rooms are large all have air conditioning.
The location is ideal for exploring almagro.
Although the price was slightly more than we had paid on our tour of Spain it's well worth a visit.

An interesting place

This hotel is an interesting mix of old and new. Our room was located in the new, modern section of the hotel. Friends we were travelling with had a room in the older section and found it to be quite cold. I had problems with the very low level of lighting in our room as my eyesight is not very good. It was difficult to shower without getting a degree of water onto the bathroom floor, and my husband found the basin awkward to use as there was no way to close the drain to keep water in the sink. Our included breakfast looked appetizing enough, but we found that the foods which were supposed to be hot were barely warm, if that. The location of the hotel is good, being a short walk from the Plaza Major.

OK hotel with a few buts

The hotel is placed in a nice house. However, most room are located in a new wing that doesn't have the charm of the old wing, which seems to be more for suite rooms.

Our experience in general was good although we were a bit disappointed being in the new wing of the hotel, which felt a bit soulless.

Reception was OK but it seemed to be placed in a way not very accessible or inviting. They were not proactive at all but they responded when asked.

The patio, the nicest part of the building, was a passing area at that time, a pity because it would be nice to be used for a better purpose.

The continental breakfast that was included in the price was not standard with other continental breakfasts. It had no proteins and you needed to have something else afterwards.

Our package included a one-hour stay in the spa. The spa is small and no more than 6 people were allowed, which was nice. It is very simple but for one hour is fine. There was a guy using the Scottish shower that started shouting for obvious reasons and later went to the sauna. After a while, someone from the massage department came to ask if we were going for a massage. Once we said no, she started telling us off about the shouting. We told her there were six people there and we didn't know why she was talking to us. She was a bit rude.

Regarding the room, my major complaint, apart from a small detail, is related to the light switches. The ones on my side of the bed could turn off the light of the bathroom but they could not turn it on. Weird. Since they were also the buttons to lift or lower the blind, it was very easy to start moving the blind when trying to turn on/off a light. Also, the ones on my side moved the blind by half an inch. What for? On the contrary, the switches on the other side of the bed would move the blind totally up or down with no possibility of stopping. It felt like a Blake Edwards film whenever we tried to turn on/off any light. To top things up, the shower had the shower controls almost outside the shower but you didn't know which one was the right one as there was no signal. As a consequence, if you were unlucky to turn on the one in the middle, a jet of water would hit you and wet the whole room, as the hand shower was pointing towards the end of the bathroom. The water was cold so it was funny but annoying.

If I come back to Almagro I will probably give it a try to either El Parador or another hotel with more historical personality, even if it's not so cool, as well as with more attention to detail.

Perfect for couples and/or families

Our Family stayed at this wonderful place in Almagro. Quite with nice colonial style with traditional decorations, including a new modern part. Very good service, large and new rooms, best breakfast in town and very close to the "Plaza". We also tried the SPA, which has a perfect atmosphere. Just go there.

Nice, luxurious hotel combining historical and modern elements

Micheline26on 05/07/2016 03:42

This hotel is located about 10-minute walk from the Plaza Major and there is ample parking on the street. Almagro is a lovely town and made an excellent stop on our way down to Granada. We were planning to stay only one night but decided to stay a second night. The hotel is very nice inside, with a historical part and a modern addition. We had a room in the modern part. It was very nice, luxurious and bright. Not being from the high tech generation we found some of the lighting and automated curtain system confusing to operate. The wifi was good and reliable. We did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food. Staff members were courteous and helpful, and gave us good tips for places to eat.
