On arrival we were met by the duty manager who we met last visit. He greeted us very warmly and as it was my Husbands pre 60th birthday visit he nicely gave us a free bottle of wine to celebrate.
We had picked a Queen suite (903) and as promised it had an in room safe.
The breakfast was very nice but as usual a bit on the cold side but everything tasted really lovely. The staff from reception through to breakfast and bar were very good.
However and this is the main problem with the Rydges every stay the House keeping leaves a lot to be desired. On every visit we have had to ring down and ask for our room to be serviced. This visit we had to do the same again. We had left early on our first day after breakfast and returned at 3pm. Plenty of time for our room to be serviced (needed toilet paper etc) I had to ring to get it seen to as we were going out at 4pm and needed to shower. Although the staff who turn up to do this are really nice people we always feel awkward in having to make the call. I just took the amenities at the door. The 2nd day same thing except they did end up going in and do some cleaning. Thank goodness we took teabags with us. We ended up putting out the sign for green cleaning where they do not have to service the room at all and we get $10 credit.
Rydges you need to address this issue. Your house keeping staff are lazy as the photo I have added shows. This knife was outside the room opposite and instead of the staff taking it away somebody placed it on the door as shown and there it sat still there on us leaving. This is disgraceful and LAZY and also DANGEROUS!!!!!
You really need to get your house keeping staff in order. Just shows that the hallways do not get vacuumed daily and what a lazy bunch of employees you are paying for in house keeping.
Apart from this fail your other staff do a wonderful job thank you.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We stayed one night for our anniversary. The hotel was amazing and made our stay wonderful with a few lovely things upon checkin and our room which was really appreciated. Staff were very helpful. The room was huge and we had an amazing view of the city. Carparking can be validated for $29 great city parking rate and right nextdoor. So easy to use. The rooftop pool was amazing, its quite deep as well. It is right oppposite her majesty theatre and china town district and a short stroll to shops making it a great location to stay. would stay here again and hopefully get to go back again one day soon.

We stayed in this hotel for our 1st time in Australia for six days to attend the quarter finals of the rugby league world cup at the nearby AAMI stadium, great location near Chinatown in the CBD a really nice hotel with lots to offer with very comfy beds and good buffet breakfast would recommend.

Stayed with Rydges for a long weekend for my 50th Birthday, from the time we first walked through the door until the time we left we were make to feel like VIP's. All the staff were fantastic and made the weekend even more enjoyable, especially Carl and Anita in the Locanda restaurant, where the food was fantastic.

In its day I suspect this was a good hotel, however the room we had needed a bit of tlc. A huge wardrobe with 6 coat hangers and no cupboard space was a tad eccentric, noisy air conditioning and a city centre location without double glazing on a main road all detracted from the benefits of the hotel.
It has lively bar and a busy restaurant that offers a decent meal and breakfast. Decent quality free wi fi was a welcome bonus.
