I take these reviews seriously so sorry. The staff is wonderful here. That's it. This place is a fishbowl of noise. There are drunk guys yelling by the pool right now at 10 pm. The music plays thru the whole place from about 8 am till 10 pm and it's terrible terrible music. The blender noise early today carried up 3 stories. 2 maids talking by the pool carried up 3 stories. The a/c is loud the refrigerator is loud, the whole place is loud. Too bad, it's.a lovely location on the beach. Would never stay here again.

This place is mostly disgusting. It is so outdated that it is no longer retro cool. It's retro yuk. Views are nice, but window trim came off as I opened the window, scared me first thing. Bed is hard, had sheets that felt twenty years old. And the worst was the pulsing top 40 music until late at night. Shower and bathroom fixtures are cheap and barely functional. Hotel was empty, so we appreciated the quiet. Lots of day pool users with kids, gets loud poolside. Staff are helpful mostly. Towels are abrasive, pool highly chlorinated but clean. No fridge in room. Furniture so old, tatty, and worn. Broken tiles on floor. Don't stay here unless you have very low expectations.

This hotel was the place to be in its heyday. The rooms are clean but some parts a bit out of date which doesn't really bother me as cleanliness is what I care about most. The pool is great, we had kids with us so they loved the kiddy pool and slides. The beach is nice for kids too as it is a bay so there are not really waves. The breakfast buffet is very good and the price is good too. The dinner in the same restaurant was not as amazing and is a bit overpriced. Overall we had a great time here and for such a low price would definitely come back again!

I've stayed here on two recent occasions. The setting is beautiful, overlooking a large bay and the Sea of Cortez. Beautiful lobby and very nice large rooms; most with views. Two good restaurants and a pizza joint, gift shop and other amenities. The pool area is large and interesting in a way the kids would love. The pool area is a fun place. Plenty of seating around the pool plus beach chairs out in the sand beyond. The Catch-22 beach, from the movie, is next door. The staff at this hotel are tops! They are happy to provide information on things to see and do, plus, places to eat in San Carlos. Good security.There are security people who walk the grounds, plus entrance to the property is controlled by a manned gate system. I will stay here again.

We've been to San Carlos a couple of times and this was our first stay here. I have a feeling most of the negative reviews were written by people who probably haven't done much traveling in Mexico.
We decided to go with the Premium room which was on the 1st floor. That is the option with 1 king size bed and a balcony facing the sea. The cost was just under 7800 Pesos for 6 nights Sat-Fri. They offered an exchange rate of 17-1 when the market rate was about 18.50 but that's not unusual. The total cost ended up being $434 US dollars.
As Mexican standards go this is a pretty nice hotel. The room is large and clean although somewhat dated. The staff are very friendly but many didn't speak English which made things a little difficult at times but not a major problem. The common areas in the lobby are very nice. The food is reasonably priced and fairly good but you can get better for less in town. The outside pool area is outstanding and if you have kids they'll love it. The beach is clean and comfortable but you have to watch out for rocks in the water. They do have jet skis and banana boats right there on premises which were a little pricey but not too bad. We did have a problem with Mosquitoes in the room but ran up to the Oxxo to get a can of Raid and the problem was solved for the rest of our stay. Water pressure was good in both the shower and sink. The available TV channels are limited and we could only find 3 in English but hey, you're not there to hang out and watch TV. The Wifi was free and surprisingly good in most areas of the hotel even in the pool area. Security is present at the gate and inside the hotel and actually take they're job seriously. If you're planning on partying keep in mind everything closes up around 10-11pm which is not unusual. That applies to both the hotel and all the places in town with just a few exceptions.
Overall, we would say the Plaza provides an excellent price to value ratio.
