What People are saying
Very unwelcoming check in, otherwise good

Sadly the way we were initially ‘greeted’ by staff really let this hotel down - I think that had this part been better we would go back.
Check in
When we arrived there was a lady there (not Samantha or Simona) who was more interested in internet shopping than checking us in. She seemed annoyed by the fact that we were there and was very unfriendly. We weren’t checked in properly or told anything about the hotel. I had to ask questions about our stay, it should’ve been the other way round. We felt so unwelcome.
Staff
Apart from this initial unfriendly contact the staff were mostly friendly, polite and helpful though it was a bit hit and miss. I have to say that I was disappointed by this as one of the reasons we picked the hotel was because of the amazing reviews people had written on here about the excellent service. Simona was consistently good, happily. Samantha was up early to make us a coffee and let us out of the hotel on the morning we left - thank you for that.
Staff at breakfast were polite and efficient.
None of the staff knew anything about any hiking routes surprisingly. However, the barman at hotel Baita dei Pini was extremely helpful and recommended us some excellent routes that we went on.
The women who cleaned our room were friendly, as was the barman (sorry - I’m not sure how to spell your name!).
Room
The room (247) was a little small but it was fine as we were out most of each day. It was pretty - decorated in the alpine way. We had a balcony with a beautiful view of the town and mountains. There was free shampoo, conditioner, cotton buds, emery board, cotton wool and shower gel. The shower was strong and the water was always hot. There was a hairdryer in the bathroom and a safe (no extra charge).
Hotel
Beautiful building with a stunning lounge. The whole building and our room was always spotless and smelt very nice. The terrace at the front and back were big with lots of comfy chairs.
Spa
We didn’t use this as I was shocked to find out that you had to pay 15euros a day or 50 for the week. Whenever we’ve been hiking / snowboarding before in Italy use of the spa was included in the room price. So, we spent an AMAZING afternoon at I Bagni Vecchi (the old baths) which I can not recommend enough. It’s 45 euros for a day pass but this includes robe, flipflops, towel, locker key, high quality toiletries…but it’s the sheer amazingness of the baths that really wowed us! There’s a pool with a panoramic view of the mountains, the waters are sourced directly from the mountains, it’s centuries old, no children under 14 are allowed in so it’s peaceful, there’s so many different relaxing rooms and saunas (most with that stunning panoramic view of the mountains) and there’s a network of caves that produce natural steam and hot water…incredible! Happily it’s a ‘swimsuit obligatory’ policy!
Food
We only ever had breakfast but it was excellent. It was buffet style with a continental option and food cooked fresh from the kitchen - eggs, omelette, American pancakes, crepes or porridge. You could have whatever coffee you wanted which was brought to you at your table, as was the food from the kitchen. We left at 4:30am when we checked out and were given a really good bag each of breakfast goodies to take with us.
Location
The location is good - central so everything’s very close. It could be noisy at night though, especially with lots of bikers around.
It’s excellent for road cycling though for the best hikes we had to drive about 30-45mins to get there. (We thought there might be more hikes you could do from Bormio itself).
‘Sunrise’ (thank you to those who recommended it!) was an excellent restaurant that also does pizza and fantastic desserts. The staff were really nice and efficient. It’s gets very busy Thursdays - Saturdays so if you’re in a big group they advise that you reserve a table. ‘Pizza 4 U’ was yummy but not as nice an atmosphere and they only did one dessert…plus the wine ‘list’ was a row of bottles on the wall?!
Wifi
Free but very weak signal and only worked every now and then.
Bike Room
My husband took his road bike and said the bike room was excellent with good tools though the staff weren’t ready if you wanted to get in it before 7am (despite us asking). Excellent location for doing Stelvio, Umbrail and Mortirola passes. It was surprisingly cold up the top on some days so take winter gear with you. There was a decent ride up to Cancano Lakes too - good switchbacks. Lots of fab routes to follow on Strava.
The laundry service was excellent - getting our cycling and hiking kit washed every day FOR FREE was fantastic but because nothing was explained to us on check in we didn’t know how to get it taken for laundry or where to get it back from.
Beautiful Hotel, Great Location

After a long day of motorcycling over the Stelvio and other passes I found this hotel and got the last room which happened to be the Penthouse suite.
This is a two story room, with a lovely little living room with big couch and mini bar fridge and a downstairs toilet and TV.
Take the charming wooden stairs up to the bedroom and you find an studio like apartment room, with a lovely big bed, a beautiful glass walled wet room type shower/bathroom with a separate toilet.
There is a stunning deep bath in the bedroom and the ceiling is a very romantic Alpine log cabin style.
At either end of the bedroom there are doors leading out to two separate terraces with amazing views over the lovely town of Bormio and the surrounding mountains.
The common area's of the hotel are gorgeous and the outdoor seated area is very relaxing.
There is an amazing underground car park where you can securely park your motorbike or car into individual garages that are lockable.
Restaurant was also very nice and the breakfast was lovely.
We ended up staying a second night as the hotel and the town are so charming.
On the down side,
The car park is great but the barrier does not raise automatically for motorbikes when exiting. The ramp out of the garage is very steep so it makes it very difficult to have to stop a motorbike on a steep ramp and get off to go in and ask them to raise the barrier.
Definitely a safety issue.
The lady that checked us in was lovely, but one of the other receptionists always seemed annoyed when I spoke to her, I got a sense she did not like bikers and her attitude was a minor negative on an otherwise perfect hotel.
Also, Despite placing do not disturb sign on the door, the chamber maids would still let themselves in for the turn down service. I normally expect the Do not Disturb sign to signal I don't want to be disturbed at all !

We have stayed at the Hotel San Lorenzo at least 15 times over the years .
The rooms are fantastic as is the whole hotel.
The owners are wonderful and all the staff are brilliant.
The Hotel has a newly fitted out restaurant and the food is just out of this world .
Also they have a new wellness Center and this has to be the best one in Bormio just amazing .
If you want to be well looked after this is the Hotel to go to .
Surprising nice

Traveling in Suedtirol I booked some overnight hotels which
Are reasonable priced but still nice.
I was very surprised about the quality of SLH which is excellent located, has easy free parking and is a very well maintained beautiful building and garden.
I had a single room which was small but everything was there and it had a cute balcony.
Breakfast was also lovely and all staff friendly and helpful.
Would go back for sure if I end up in Bormio again.
Top notch cycling hotel, can't wait to come back for winter

This review is long overdue. This is a top notch hotel in a world class cycling area. Our hostess, Samantha took care of every detail that we could need. The rooms were comfortable with an elegant, but modern touch. We stayed and rode for 8 days and had freshly laundered cycling gear every day. The food was so good that we eat at the hotel most meals. The bar, spa, patios and grounds are truly beautiful. The bike room had gear to tune or service your bike as well as clean it everyday. Samantha found out that I was gluten free (Celiac) and I had gluten free pasta for any meal as well as the best chocolate croissants to eat for breakfast each morning. This was an amazing experience!
