What People are saying

Romantic getaway

At first it looked a little too far away from Monterey to suit our needs, but I could not resist the pictures on line and the location on the sandy dunes. Best decision ever! The staff is all wonderful, room delightful. We chose king oceanfront. It looked onto the dunes and the ocean beyond. Cute deck with chairs to just soak up the ocean air. They just reopened the on site restaurant, now called Salt Wood. Super beachy, casual chic and excellent food.

I loved many things about this hotel. First, they drive you around in golf carts, which lends to the quiet nature of the hotel. Very nice wine happy hour, but by far my favorite part was walking to the fire pits at sunset, and making s’mores (you can purchase a kit already available in your room).

So relaxed, it is very romantic here. It seems to be an older property which for me really lended to the charm. Our room was well maintained and the bathroom was huge, with his and hers pedestal sinks.

Shout out to Brandon who would see us walking and just pick us up in the cart, even after his shift had ended. He is an asset to the hotel and made sure we knew the hotel amenities.

We hope we come that way again, we would not choose another hotel. The drive into Monterey for the day was a piece of cake.

Beautiful but disappointing

The room was beautiful, beachfront and private, but there was the sound of a motor running outside the room. Pretty sure it was the water heater, so every time someone used water it turned on. The restaurant was closed the entire weekend we were there. We booked spa treatments and one hour before they started we got told only one of us could go as they were short staffed. All this combined to us feeling like we paid for five star but got three star.

Vastly overpriced

We are staying at the Sanctuary now. It doesn’t live up to its price at all. When I made the reservation, I asked for a room location that has an unobstructed view of the ocean. When I asked whether there was any building between our room and the ocean, I was told there is nothing but sand dunes and grass. When I checked in they again confirmed this. But the room has only a partial view of the ocean with a building obstructing more than half of the view. The room and service quality are like a chain like Marriott. But the price is that of a great and refined hotel. The room price is about twice what it should be. They have bonfires at the beach but sell you some cheap s’mores that are prepackaged, rather than making good ingredients available gratis. Not a big deal maybe but why nickel and dime your customers? This place would be just OK, but at the $400+ price they are a failure.

beautiful location

We were here for 3 nights for a meeting and each room had such a beautiful room and cosy fireplace. The walk to the beach only takes a few minutes and the view is fabulous. Shame it is not possible to swim and it was pretty windy.
Only downside was that I didn't feel the reception was so friendly and the breakfast we ordered came late. I also had ants in the room and the sliding door in my room to the patio was a little broken.

Relaxing pet friendly getaway

We had a beautifully well appointed, comfortable, clean room; our ‘view’ was the small building where guests would go to get ice and the large sat dishes attached to the building. Not the ocean deluxe room as promised. The room was perfect for our small dog, we had plenty of room. The nightly bon fires were a treat to sit in front of with a glass of wine. The breakfast delivered to your room is $19 each plus a delivery fee. A ham/cheese croissant or 2 hard boiled eggs. We found a great place for breakfast in Marina for a total of $23. The beach is a plus; beach to the north is dog friendly, The fireplace only works when you turn up the thermostat. The upholstered chairs were the most uncomfortable; we sat on the bed to read or look out the window. Loved having the extra cozy blankets! Marina is a bit of a drive to get anywhere. Nothing close by to walk or bike too.
