A wonderful experience

This place is amazing - for the right customer. Hotels like this have largely vanished and been replaced by anonymous modern chains. This is the real deal. If you appreciate vintage authenticity and prefer a rickety -but clean- old room with high ceilings and original furniture and fixtures, you will adore this place. If you're looking for a modern spa, you'll hate it.
Coming from Los Angeles with our two young kids, there was no better way to experience the old school charm of Aix-les-Bains than at this family-run hotel. The proprietors were the sweetest couple and incredibly accomodating. They were extremely knowledgable about Aix and, of course, architectural restoration.
The 'secret weapon' to this place is the breakfast. It was hands-down the best we had in France! The owners are in the kitchen serving fresh croissants and stacks of perfect crepes - alongside homemade Nutella. (Really - who makes homemade Nutella??)
We travel a lot in our lives. We have been to dozens of fancy hotels we will never remember. We won't forget the Hotel Savoy.
An average stay at a 2 star hotel

This hotel is run by a elderly couple, and the husband and wife are very courteous. This seemed like an old building converted into a hotel. This hotel is located in the center which like a 5 minute walk to the Aix les bains - Le Revard train station and also about 5 minutes to other streets around the centre of town. If you arrive at the train station, exit the station and walk across the road past the round about up the little sloping road. and you will find Hotel Savoy located on your right. It's almost as if the road touching the hotel is perpendicular to the round about to the train station exit.
There are no lifts to the higher floors and you'd need to manage carrying heavy luggage up the stairs yourself. We were given a double bed room to the back of the hotel on the 2nd floor. The floor seemed a little squeaky but a decent sized double bed that was alright. We were instructed to leave the keys hung on a board just near the stairs close to the reception when leaving the room (for housekeeping to clean the rooms). We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel, but noticed guests regularly around the restaurant around breakfast time. Aix les bains usually has pleasant weather, so these rooms don't have air conditioning, but a table fan should you need to plug it in. The place has free Wifi, but the signal strength was bad and the speed wasn't as fast.
Overall, it was decently priced at €55 a night considering how expensive places around the rest of France cost. You will need to pay the city tax in addition to the cost of the room.
Good value for a 2-star hotel

Our family of 6 recently stayed for 4 nights, in two rooms. Our main concern when travelling is to find a decent hotel with enough beds so that our children don't have to share beds or use uncomfortable roll-away beds or sofa beds. The Hotel Savoy met our needs perfectly, I would recommend it for families or groups.
Room 10 was on the third floor (2nd floor in French terms), and had a queen and a full bed. It was at the back of the hotel so there was less street noise. The bathroom was large and typical French style (hand-held shower). Room 14 was on the 4th (top) floor (3rd floor in French terms) and had 1 queen bed and 3 twins, perfect for our older children. Again the bathroom was large, hand-held shower over a tub. This room was at the front of the building with a nice wrought iron balcony overlooking the street, and views towards mountains in both directions. Both rooms had high ceilings with crown molding, traditional solid-wood furniture, and carpet that was visibly worn in places. The place is a bit tired, but still charming. The owners could not have been more friendly or helpful.
We were there during very hot weather and the hotel does not have air conditioning. The rooms were so warm when we arrived, we were a bit concerned, but with the windows open at night, they cooled down enough for a good night’s sleep. The mattresses were very comfortable (with the exception of one of the twin beds in room 14). Also, there is no elevator so be prepared to carry your suitcase up a few flights of stairs.
The location was very convenient: easy walking distance to shops, cafés and all the attractions in the town center. There is no hotel parking lot, but street parking is free between 7 pm and 9 am, and again between 12 noon and 2 pm. We never had any problems finding a spot close to the hotel.
As long as you keep your expectations in line with the standards for a French 2-star hotel, you will not be disappointed.
Classic and convenient.

Beautiful classic hotel. Very large rooms with vintage style furniture. Bathroom was an odd addition to the main room. Central location just a short walk to the train station.
A bit noisy for road traffic and concerts in the park. The wifi required getting a code from front desk per device.
