Camping and dinner on a wet night.

Of the two camp sites, the better one was inaccessible to our motorhome. That was a pity because we would have had more shelter on that one when the heavens opened. We did stay dry in the private facilities & the rain had passed by the time we walked round to the restaurant, where we had a most enjoyable dinner.
Unfortunately limited other options

Khorab seems to survive on the fact that you don't really have an alternative at Otavi. Our experience was not great. The reception is really friendly but that's about where it ends.
The rooms are generally spacious but the linen was dirty and mosquito nets torn. At least the aircon worked really well
If you are able to drive a bit further for alternative accommodation do consider it.
Fine for an overnight stay

After wildly underestimating drive times in Namibia (recognize: it takes a looong time to get around) and having been told not to drive after dark, I realized we weren’t gonna make it from Windhoek to our lodge in Etosha. Five minutes later, a sign for Khorab appeared like a message from above. **Stop here, all ye bad travel planners….** So we did.
Khorab is immediately off the main B1 highway, so there is a bit of highway noise, although it didn’t bother us one bit. The lodge includes a camping area in addition to the standard rooms, and the entire complex is gated for safety. The gate automatically opens between 0600am and 2200pm… after these hours, there’s a number to call to gain access.
The receptionist seemed a little put-off by us showing up sans reservation, but she was helpful in getting us a very good rate on a clean, basic room.
Parking is located right next to each room, which was convenient. I’m an insect-phobe and without benefit of prior Tripadvisor reviews, I was nervous about what creepy-crawlies would be awaiting us inside our room. I was amazed to find not one single bug in the entire room. It was spotless. Air conditioning worked very well, as did the tv. Coffee/tea kettle were included in the room. Bathroom was very, very basic (kind of a blast from the past), but functional. The shower was dreary enough that I decided I could wait til we arrived at our next hotel.
The Khorab Lodge complex includes a bar and restaurant in the main building and a swimming pool that we didn’t try out (but which looked pretty nice). The restaurant was fairly disappointing… and my expectations were low to start. Food was edible and didn’t get us sick, but my husband’s plate included a fried moth and a long hair. Not a huge deal, just full disclosure. Our guidebook seemed to suggest this is one of the better places to eat in Otavi (?), so maybe my standards were just too high for the locale. Our waiter was nice enough, although we did get a hard-sell on some overpriced souvenir items at the end of our meal… it was awkward to the point that we just bought them to end the interaction and go to sleep, but we did feel taken advantage of, especially after already having left a sizable tip. Didn’t stay for the included breakfast the following morning.
Overall, Khorab Lodge is a fine place for a few hours’ stop overnight… I definitely wouldn’t make a vacation out of staying here for multiple days, but our room was extremely clean and felt safe.
Not impressed with camping at Khorab.

I emailed Khorab to ask if I should book a campsite, and was told it was not necessary. When I arrived I was lucky to get the last of the only 2 campsites available. Other campers that arrived had to pay for a room, so request a booking number and confirmation. The shower did not work, there was no toilet paper, the light fittings had no bulbs and the bathroom was dirty. We complained at reception and they sent someone to fix all the issues. This would never have happened if management checked up on their staff. After that we managed to enjoy a comfortable meal and hot shower. The major drawback of this campsite is the location is only 100m from a highway. A vehicle or truck passes every few seconds, so sleeping in the african bush with the sounds of trucks passing is not worth what they charge. Will not stay there again.
Good overnight stop

We camped at khorab for one night, although very close to the main highway it was peaceful and comfortable. Campsite has own ablutions, fire place and shelter with table and chairs. Clean and tidy.Reasonably priced.
