What People are saying
From good to excellent . From client to family. From srprise to delight....
Charles Don 26/03/2017 11:53What a delightful vacation it was!!!!! This is not the first time at the Shackleton but this time was more of a delight more of special touch. Besides the environment the architecture the top quality environment I think what made it even more special was the genuine hospitality of its owner. No one could fake GENUINE hospitality unless they are genuinely interested in your wellbeing, and they obviously are. The amenities are great but the food was not just delightful but it was more of an experience in an northern Italian home cooked specially with love by the Mama. A vacation in a luxury good resort is good but what makes a special and a memorable vacation is the feeling and the memories that could not be duplicated. Thank you Davide and Elena for making this moment in time unforgettable. The sherry on top of the cake was the ski day with Davide and some guests around the Via lattea (milky way). The via lattea ski circuit around the alps that took us from Italy to France and back to Italy on skies. The sceneries were delightfully breath taking and the skiing was a dream.( i should say that the weather was Caribbean and the snow in March was plentiful and great despite the warmth). I could not say enough in this comment nor do I have the writing talent to give justice to our experience. All I can say is that you will have to experience it for yourself and then you will understand that THE SHAKLETON EXPERIENCE is second to none by miles and bounds. Thank you again because that's what a ski vacation is all about!!!!
Friendly hotel, lovely staff
lisah0peon 13/01/2017 23:08We stayed at the Shackleton for 5 nights over Christmas. The owners went out of their way to make a special event for the younger kids getting the chef to dress up as Father Christmas - it's a family-oriented hotel.
Rather eccentric architecture , modern on the outside yet traditional wood and stone inside, the room was huge for a family of 5 with two bedrooms and a sitting room- however there were not many seats.
Skis and boots are stored at the foot of the slopes, Rosanna helps you get kitted up in the morning and puts everything away for you in the evening, then it's just a short walk through the village back to the hotel and a lovely meal, we ate in every night.
Loved the food; special diets catered for and lots of healthy options on the menu, smoothies and cooked breakfast on offer at breakfast time. All in all a very welcoming place to stay.
Very good hotel, centrally in sestriere
winningspiritson 12/01/2017 18:58A modern building from outside and the mountain hut atmosphere inside.
Hotelrooms are relatively big and somewhat simple from interior, but that is quite ok for a wintersport hotel. Staff is extremely helpfull and friendly. Breakfast is good dinner is very good. Roomservice and cleaning absolutely top.
Parking of the hotel in the garage is available at a very reasonable rate of 10 eu per night. Late checkout was no problem, no extra cost ( we left at around 1300 hours after a morning skiing )
Two minor issues, when we were having dinner, during our maincourse staff was already setting up tables and breakfast buffet, that did not feel friendly and we think it is a pity you have to sit in bath to use the shower......
( but a good bath after skiing using the hydromassge made up for that)
Excellent is the free ski and boot deposit at rosanna's right on the piste. We never had to walk with our ski boots on and carrying the skies
We will be back!
All over-recommended.Few things to improve
amatta787on 12/04/2016 19:23As a bottom line I do recommend. Also advise them to improve some things (written below).
Well decorated and comfortable room (3 adults room). Liked to see they really care about the look of the room and furnishing (beds, bath, decoration).
Staff is friendly and willing to help. There. Is a happy hour but we found that "by the way".It is important to inform us upon arrival
A bit of walking to the slopes but they have a convenient arrangement (may be other hotel have too) with rental ski shop right on the snow with good price and service (Rossana if I remember which is recommended any how).I think they don't have a ski room in the hotel-(verify with them).
In order to stand in one line with 4 stars ski-resorts hotels (and to get a"5" on review) I do advise them to take care of these: enrich breakfast (its "OK" but must include vegetable/fresh salad, healthier breads like whole wheat/rye), indoor Sauna and Jacuzzi and consider make place for a Lobby (people will buy drinks and snacks). Thing again about your "extras" charge policy (we do pay good price for the room): extras in breakfast, indoor parking (or at least lower the charge).
But overall- I recommend.
Lovely Hotel - highly recommend
KatieandDave Pon 11/04/2016 21:23This was our second time staying in this lovely family run hotel. The owners (Davide and Fiore) and all the staff are delightful. They organise everything for you, should you so wish - for us it was ski lessons and ski hire. Davide organises private ski lessons with himself, he is a great skier (ex Italian Team) and our children all love him. You can walk down to the ski rental place each morning and leave all your ski stuff there when you've finished in the evening.
The food in the restaurant at breakfast and evening is really nice - the best in town.
Our room had a lovely view of the mountains. The rooms are spotless. Lots of room in lounge/bar area to sit and relax, play cards, etc. Big play area for children in hotel. Indoor and outdoor pool next door (public pool) but swimming with mountains in background is rather nice & sports centre few minutes walk.
We will be going back again.
