I was on a business trip in Changchun and a colleague recommended the Shangri La Hotel.
Everything was very good.
Outstanding was the breakfast, which had much more asian food than in other international hotels. (Don't be afraid, there are a lot of western choices as well).
The gym surprised me: Very complete - I could do my complete routine as in my home gym - very surprising.

Room is everyday cleaned and arange well. Location is great to rrstaurants and bars. Free bottled water, i think 3 everyday. Downside is breakfast at level 1. If you are staying for 5 days or more you might get bored with the limited selection

The Shangri-la is an international brand of repute and this is a quality property as close to the centre of Changchun as it’s possible to be. Leaving aside the flashy foyer, much of the gratuitous Chinese bling that characterises local iterations of five-star hotels is thankfully absent. The staff are courteous, professional and competent and the services are up to the stars. There may be newer hotels in town but this is surely the choice for refinement without pretence.
The good: our Horizon Club King room (2242) was clean, comfortable, quiet and adequately roomy. Everything expected was there and it all worked as expected. The king bed was firm but comfortable, the linens fresh and crisp and there were enough pillows for each of us to find our preference. The décor is a restrained but elegant 5-star hotel vanilla and there was refreshingly little of the poor fit and finish – or even poorer repairs – that so characterises many Chinese mainland hotels, regardless of the stars.
The bathroom was well-appointed with good lighting and everything worked as expected. The included wifi worked well on all our devices. Again, unusual in a Chinese property, the air-conditioning answered to the room controls and not to some mindless central authority. The Horizon Club has a drinks & canapes selection from 5:30-7:30PM which could answer for dinner if you were pressed. We also took our breakfasts in the Horizon Club which has a more limited, but still very good, buffet with eggs to order. The service was professional and English was good all round.
The not so good: the bathroom space is a little compact. Mostly OK for single-use operations but even then it requires the poise of a ballet dancer to enter and exit the shower stall without hopping around the other fixtures.

They fail again and again. They screwed up our booking, which was for three people and not two. The room smells like smoking, even though it is a non-smoking floor. They consistently fail to buy train tickets, and don't tell us about it. They give us room keys that don't work.
It's not a 5 star hotel.

Everything works in the room, good location, good services... Good Choice for traveling in Changchun. However, shower gel / shampoo did not smell too right to me, breakfast place is overcrowded and getting a cab from the lobby is not too easy, as compared to some other hotels in the same category.
