Just not good enough

Visited this really nice looking pub on a Sunday afternoon to meet some friends for a dog walk.
Some nice looking dishes on there so went for the Lamb Chops (unknown source) with dauphinois and minted peas. Hungry after the walk I didn’t question the £16 price tag for this dish and presumed as the place looked good, the food should be excellent.
Unfortunately it wasn’t. To be honest pretty poor. The two chops looked pretty lost on the plate and yielded little protein let alone taste. The dauphinois dry and once again tiny. The peas were actually pretty nice. At no point were we asked was everything okay or would you like another drink.
For desert I had the brownie which wasn’t as on the menu but some sort of sundae made of cubes of stale brownie. Utterly disgraceful! My wife’s tart was overdone on verge of burnt and all the mains were lukewarm. My friend had the roast with 2 roast potato’s.
We didn’t want to make a fuss with friends but on our own there would have been some fireworks. It’s almost fraudulent to charge the prices your charging for the standard of service and sub standard food. If I’m paying £16 for lamb chops it needs to be better than I can cook at home. I’ve had better in hospital.
I could go on but I won’t. These sort of pretentious places need to be outed and closed.
Make your own minds up but I will not be returning.
One day stay after a shoot

Visting for a shoot and I llive too far away to drive back the same day. Excellent food, roast beef and all the trimmings, I thought I had half a cow on my plate, properly cooked as were the vegatables. Room comfortable, friendly landlord and staff, good beer and good choice of wine. Excellent beakfast. No phone signal but that is normal in this part of Wiltshire but excellent wifi so I could still call and use my ipad. Will stay again.
Disappointed compared to previous visit in March 2017

Hubs and I ordered the Smoked Haddock Kedgeree with soft poached egg @ £14.95 - egg lovely, rice nice but had to get microscope out to find haddock. Pitiful amount in it especially as its named SMOKED HADDOCK kedgeree so it was nearly £15 for a poached egg and rice!
Comfortable country pub (with accommodation)

Bertie and Sandra are wonderful hosts.
Food and drinks were above average.
Accommodation is average, and what you'd expect for £80 quid for a double room, with breakfast.
Would stay again if visiting surrounding area.
A bit disappointing

The first indication that all would not be as hoped for was when we checked in, and were told that the bar and restaurant were closed as it was bank holiday Monday. The Inn is in quite a remote spot, and there was nowhere else within walking distance to have dinner. That was less than ideal! It would have been helpful to have been told at the time of booking that the restaurant was going to be closed, and that would have allowed us to make alternative plans. The breakfast was also a bit disappointing. No marmalade (because it was bank holiday Monday - not quite sure of the reasoning there!) only two cereals to choose from (Frosties and Special K) and no fruit. The cooked breakfast was good, but we were given no choice as to which items we would like. On the plus side, the room was comfortable, and the inn is very picturesque to look at. We did have some issues with the showers in our two rooms, and the temperature was very hard to control - one minute far too hot, and the next freezing cold. On balance we were all a bit disappointed, as things were just not what we had hoped for after a long drive and a busy day.
