The Sheraton Orlando North is a solid choice when you are staying in the Maitland area. The hotel is conveniently near a major road, however not so close as to have much noise. The property includes a nice pool, a good restaurant and a selection of meeting/function rooms. All in all a good choice.

Imagine finally getting to your hotel the day before a business conference and the hotel desk clerk telling you your two-day reservation made two months earlier was only booked for one night, and they are at 100% capacity on a Wednesday night.
Then they said they checked and there are no other hotels in the area with availability so you have nowhere to go. You’re homeless and hopeless far away from home with no place to sleep.
What in the world is going on in Maitland on a Wednesday night that has every single hotel at capacity? Her response? “We are always this busy.”
I asked if they had any suites available. She said they had nothing and would’ve told me if those were available.
I asked if they record reservations made over the phone. She said yes but those are made at a call center and it wouldn’t help with our situation tonight.
She disappeared again, so I called a different hotel I’ve stayed at in Orlando many times. They said they had two rooms for two nights so I booked the hotel and left.
While still in the parking lot, the Sheraton clerk calls me and asked if I left. Then she said a Sheraton down the road had a room available. I told her I had already found another hotel and asked her to cancel the two rooms for the next night since they couldn’t accommodate us.
Let’s recap the worst way to handle a situation:
1) Mistake made in reservation so make the customer feel like it was their fault.
2) Crush any hope of finding a place to stay the night after a long drive, and after a long day at work, and offer no solution.
3) After the customer leaves, miraculously find a place with availability.
Maybe it’s because I’m in the service industry, but this is a great example of horrible customer service. It’s also a great way to lose business.
Now I’ll tell everyone at my FIS conference how bad my experience was. And on Trip Advisor. And Yelp. And probably Twitter. Heck, let’s put in on every social media platform to cover our bases.

Staff service was nonexistent except for the van drivers. They were awesome!! Restaurant service was a joke at best and border line rude. The servers at breakfast were great though! Room carpet was absolutely filthy and my room had ants. Broken lamps and beat up furniture topped off the decor! Gym cardio equipment was on their last leg and almost impossible to use. Free weights and machines were a plus though. If company is paying for you , like in my case, you can make do. If it were my dime I would have checked out after the first night.

I asked the front desk when I checked in if I could have a quiet room away from the noise of the construction as I had a certification exam to take the next morning. The lady at the front desk was very nice and obliged me and gave me an extremely quiet room away from everything. It was a very nice room and comfortable. The only small complaint that I would have would be the water pressure, if the toilet had been flushed, the shower would not flow. Only the sink faucet or shower could be used but not while the toilet was flushed. The next morning there was no water at all, I called the front desk and was told a line had been cut by the people doing construction, but that it had been fixed. When the water did come back it was black. This did resolve by the end of the day. We still used bottle water to brush our teeth just in case.
There is an Irish pub in the hotel which was quite nice. We had drinks there a couple of times. The staff was extremely nice. I cannot comment on the food really as we only had drinks and one time an appetizer of chicken wings which was very good.

I was taking my daughter to winter park for a procedure. We needed a nearby hotel. This one was the closest one. The room was nice and clean however the drains in the bathroom were a bit clogged. While taking a shower or even washing my face in the sink it took a moment for the sink or the tub to fill up. They should periodically check the drains and service them to prevent this from happening. Overall my stay served the purpose. It was convenient.
