What People are saying

Pleasant visit

Orlando_Girl25on 01/05/2017 19:48

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for one night during our trip around Normandy and Bretagne. The hotel has outstanding view of the ocean and has a nice walking path right by the beach. The room was spotless, the staff was professional and extremely helpful. The regular room has met our expectations and the heating rack in the bathroom with the plush robes that have been pre-heated makes a wonderful welcome. The only thing we were not impressed with was the breakfast selection. I believe for such an outstanding hotel, you should step up your breakfast selections. I would suggest home-made yogurt, variety of pastries (in addition to just croissant), and more fresh fruit (not compote). Otherwise, the stay was wonderful and we would love to come back and enjoy the hotel and the beach when the weather gets warm.

Thank you.

Very friendly staff

It seems that the hotel itself is slowly coming in its years and to be honest, I have seen better equipped spas around but the staff is amazing! Ilia welcomed us upon arrival and he was not only very professional but also very friendly and made us laugh. He accompanied us to the room and explained everything nicely! Christophe, the concierge helped us finding restaurants and Camille also from front desk was just perfect! The team made our stay great and we thank them for that!

Almost perfect

Great stay there for a week with an extremely kind staff in any part of the hotel you go : restaurant, reception, bar, spa. The room is perfect with a great view over the beach. We used room service once and it was high standard. Slight disappointment on diners quality consistency : it could be really excellent as below average; nothing to do with product quality which is always very good but more about cooking preparation. Plus, extras are very expensive (e.g. 13€ for a glass of wine, 22€ for a sandwich). But over all, we were extremely satisfied.

Really good hydrotherapy spa break

Joanna Gon 24/09/2016 17:11

We are regular spa goers, looking for something a bit different - so we booked a six-night 24 mini-treatment package (which included half board) for mid-September back in early June - fortunately obtaining both a good discount on the basic price and thankfully a good, pre-Brexit exchange rate.

Catering excellent (great breakfasts and a limited choice but entirely suitable selection for evening eating). Spa treatments (we had massage, underwater shower, vichy shower, hydrotherapy baths and pool exercise sessions) exceeded our expectations. There was also a large swimming pool sauna and steam room complex, which was nearly always quiet, and a gym. Our superior sea view room and balcony was a delight - robes, slippers, free water, re-usable spa bag and quality toiletries - all provided.

Overall we found the level of service very good, including an incredibly helpful concierge who went into Quiberon to an opticians when my husband's glasses came apart. The restaurant staff were excellent and coped well with our very limited French. Our only concerns were the very high prices of any additional treatments (certainly for the English pocket), and high bar prices - but with a bit of advance planning you can work round these. This certainly would not stop us going again next year.

Not the 5 star experience we had been expecting

Stanleyalbon 18/09/2016 11:05

My husband and I recently spent four nights at this hotel, having reserved a Superior Room with a sea view. On arrival we were shown to our room and we asked about the air conditioning.  We were told there was none and that this was only available in the suites.  We were provided with a fan but we found the absence of air conditioning in a five star hotel unusual.  Having assessed the room we were unhappy.

We asked for a change of room and were told that the room we had been allocated was not what we had booked. As there were no more Superior rooms with a sea view available and that this was the hotel's mistake, we were offered two alternatives, one at an additional charge of 80€ per night-club or a Deluxe Suite at an additional charge of 160€ per night (a reduction of 50% per night).  Having already been made aware that the only rooms with air conditioning were the suites we decided to move to a Deluxe Suite.  Although the mistake over bookings was acknowledged to be the responsibility of the hotel, at no point was another room offered to us which did not involve us in additional expenditure.  We were pleased to have opted for the room with air conditioning as it was very hot at night and difficult to sleep with the windows open ( as had been suggested) due to the noise of the sea.

The room was very comfortable, with one of the best 'dressing room/walk-in wardrobes' that we have experienced in a hotel.  The sea view was beautiful.

We had reserved in the 'Presque Ile' restaurant and we arrived about 10 minutes early to be met by a woman who was clearly overwhelmed, telling us we would have to wait 5 minutes.  There was no explanation as to why this was and a bit confusing as we could see there were plenty of empty tables in the restaurant.  Other couples arriving after us were shown in before us.  We returned after 10 minutes and were told it would be another 3 minutes before we were able to be seated.  Having arrived in the restaurant it became apparent that all the tables closest to the window had been 'reserved' by half bottles of wine left presumably by diners who had eaten in the restaurant on previous occasions.

My husband's beef and my fish were overcooked.

With regard to other aspects of our stay :

a the Concierge was very helpful, placing a jug of milk in our room upon request, reserving a boat trip and a taxi on our behalf;
b we ate one night in our room.  Given our experience in the restaurant we chose food which didn’t need to be cooked ie smoked salmon, foie gras and cheese.  The service and the food were both good;
c housekeeping was excellent;
d the selection at breakfast was good.  However, on two occasions we arrived to be kept waiting because empty tables had not been cleared/reset.  At 9.30 one morning, the staff were making no attempt to set additional tables for breakfast, resulting in those arriving having to wait. Staff were also very slow in removing dirty plates from tables and we were served food in chipped crockery;
e generally the staff were friendly;
f along with some other commentators on TripAdvisor, we don't particularly like the idea of people arriving for breakfast in their robes, but I guess this is a matter of personal taste.

I raised all these matters in a letter afterwards to the Director General, but this was met with a standard response - ‘we are deeply sorry to read in your comment that the overall experience of your stay didn’t meet your expectations. Be sure that we shared your comment with our managers so they can correct all the details you mentioned.’

Overall, we were disappointed and did not feel this was the ‘five-star’ experience we had been expecting.
