Had a reservation, but no room for me!

Despite having a confirmed reservation, there was no room available for me when I arrived at the hotel. On one hand, I can understand if unforeseen circumstances prevented a room from being available. They cited damage to the room as the reason why they didn't have a room for me. Presumably they knew this well before my 8p arrival, though, because when I walked up to the desk and gave my name they immediately presented me with a voucher for a complimentary stay at the Courtyard at Miami Beach. This was a miscalculation on the part of the management in three ways:
1) If they knew that they didn't have a room for me, they should have called me immediately to inform me so that we could discuss my options, rather than waiting until I walked in, ready to check in.
2) I specifically chose this location because it is right across the street from my meeting location the next morning, so sending me to a hotel on Miami Beach is not helpful in any way.
3) I'm traveling for business, so offering to pay for the stay does nothing for me. I would rather stay at a hotel close to my meeting location and be offered a complimentary stay for a future visit. My company is paying for my hotel, so comping the room has no value for me.
I just joined the Marriott Rewards Program but I can't say that I'll be choosing Marriott for my future travel. The manager did not make an effort to make things right for me. As far as I'm concerned, not having a room available for a confirmed guest is hands down the most grievous mistake a hotel can make. They should have notified me immediately and they should have had a better conciliatory gesture than to offer my company a free night.
Very nicely renovated rooms

The rooms in this hotel are really nice but they were recently renovated and the odor of the new carpeting is strong. If you have a sensitive nose or a reaction to the smell of new carpeting, I would avoid this hotel. The receptionists are friendly and there is a restaurant in the hotel that is adequate. The menu is rather limited but there is also a bar available. The free breakfast is nice and there are hot foods such as eggs and sausages and cereals/oatmeal available. They have two waffle irons for making your own Belgian waffles. They have fresh fruit, apple or orange juice and coffee, tea or hot chocolate. It is a nicer spread than many hotel chains.
Good if overall

I stayed here on a brief work trip to Jackson medical center. The rooms were spotless and quiet and the staff was super helpful. The weight room was small with working equipment but the tiny pool was closed. It’s walking distance to Jackson although the walk is not scenic as you walk under the freeway with lots of trash. It’s a close Lyft ride to South Beach and Wynwood but unfortunately they no longer offer airport shuttles.
I am sure it will be nice after renovation

A quick stop over before a cruise. The place was being renovated. Thats fine. However we were placed on a floor where the only thing that separated us from the renovation was a sheet. The place was a mess. Debris everywhere. Smoke detectors disconnected. I am sure it would be nice after renovation, but not impressed with how they are handling the guests now.
If you want a to sleep, stay somewhere else

Stayed at this property six months ago, and it was OK. Noisy due to location, but the staff, shuttle and free breakfast was good, so we booked again. The room this time was so noisy, I slept with ear plugs, which by a stroke of good luck, were in my overnight bag. We stay here as my husband is a patient at Bascom Palmer, and it is within walking distance. They usually have a shuttle, which I assumed was still available, since when I checked in they asked the reason for my stay, and I replied "an early appointment at Bascom Palmer". The AC could not be regulated, either on or off or freezing. Pick one. TV did not have NBC, which sounds silly, but I wanted to watch a particular show that night and relax a little, We were told that it happens in a lot of the rooms and there is nothing they can do about it. Next morning we went down to get the shuttle, only to be told due to renovations, they didn't have one. Again, the room was very, very noisy and I hope they put in better noise reduction windows. We are in NYC a great deal, and they have figured that out!
