We have been staying here for the last 4 years for work trips and it always feels like a 2nd minimal home
I have hearing issues so don't hear the traffic so you if you are a light sleeper take ear plugs!

This is a bare bones property with poor staff response to problems. Uncomfortable and creaky and low bed, poor lighting. No art. Felt like a soul less cell. Poorly equipped. No coffee pot. This is 100% a no frills place to stay. Might be ok for a group of young persons as it felt more like a hostel. And such a shame because with a little care it could be nice and is a great location. The foyer is attractive so wonder if it was just the unit we had which was on the top floor...three long flights (with heavy suitcases) up. No view as the windows are high up or face a brick wall. The office acted like they cared about our stay but actions speak louder than words to us. They did not even respond to my last email which is rude!

First impressions were good after a short walk from Shepherd's Bush tube station. We were supplied with access codes to enter the building and collect our keys. Building appeared clean and recently decorated.
We entered our apartment which turned out to be in the basement directly beside the front entrance to the 3 basement flats. The room was clean and well presented however the temperature was unbearable. We tried to open the windows which proved difficult as to reach them we had to climb on top of the kitchenette work surface. We then realised that the windows opened at street level and all night we were plagued with typical London noises such as shouting, sirens and mopeds whizzing past. Also being beside the front door meant that every time someone entered or exited the building a security light shone right onto the top of the bed.
We also discovered that our basement room sits right over the Central line. I can tell you exactly where the 2 tunnels lie based on the vibrations and noise through the floor. I like trains but not a few feet from my head as I am trying to sleep.
The bathroom was also so tiny that it was almost impossible to use. Step outof the shower and you whacked your hip on the sink. Turn around and you hit your elbow off the wall. One tiny towel rail which is pointless because you could barely fit a tea towel on it never mind a bath sheet. You also had to reach over the loo to get at it which resulted in the inevitable hand towel falling in the toilet situation.
The bed. I may as well have slept on the floor. I have never felt such a hard mattress in my life, so hard in fact that we both woke up every night of our 5 night stay with dead limbs or severe cramps in our legs. The mattress also had 2 massive hollows in.
Coupled with the fact I already suffer from 2 spinal issues this apartment ruined my holiday experience. We spent our days wandering around like zombies through lack of sleep and I spent a good part of the trip limping around London hunting for a pharmacy for painkillers.
Never again!

- Directions on how to get to the room are clear and easy to follow.
- The location is GREAT
- We did not realize the room was in the basement (that was not clear in the description)
- Room does not have a coffee maker
- Bed mattress is in very bad shape and bad quality
- Room is VERY noisy as it's right on Holland Park Avenue (this could probably be added to room description)
- There should be an extra bedding set and towels in the room, as they're only changed once a week.

The flat is very clean and well equipped. We had a wonderful stay in St James House. It is conveniently located and well communicated. It allowed us to have a very nice long week end in London. I would recommend to anyone.
