I stayed here with a friend as we were going to a gig at the University of London Union and wanted somewhere close to the venue. The hotel exceeded our expectations. We had a proper twin room unlike the 'double bed plus sofa bed' you often end up with. It's a lovely old building with high ceilings but the room was nice and warm and the bathroom ensuite enclosed to keep the steam out of the bedroom. The windows were well insulated from the traffic noise. The breakfast was great, choice of cereals and pastries etc and a cooked to order breakfast. Free wifi. What more can you ask for.
WOW - what a find

Stayed here for a weekend away and what a surprise. We booked this as a mid range hotel in the location we needed and I wasn't expecting too much - However the hotel is far better in facilities, cleanliness and the warm welcome of staff than 'chain hotels' (Hilton, Jury's etc) we have stayed in in London before and we would definitely recommend here and will come back for another stay. Secure key needed on entrance and on each bedroom door - felt completely safe.
Arrived with luggage earlier than check in but were welcomed, efficiently checked in and given room key - the room was at the front and was very spacious with a huge bed. There was tea/coffee facilities, a fridge with bar supplies but also useful to keep our own drinks cool. The room had everything you would need without having to call down to reception for anything. Iron, Safe, Toiletries all available. Room and bathroom were clean and fresh, bedding was like new and the bed was so comfy. Even though we were at the front the room was quiet.
Breakfast was served in the basement dining area with a full range of continental food offered and cooked breakfast made to order. It was delicious. Tea / Coffee were fresh and hot. Service came with a smile. One morning it was busy at breakfast and as its a small hotel there were not enough seats but staff pleasantly asked people to wait in the sunroom while they prepared tables quickly.
There was an information folder in the room and based on that we ate out nearby in Charlotte street in a lovely Spanish resturant which was fabulous too.
This is a family run hotel and it is clear they take pride in it. All staff were helpful.
I would really recommend this hotel and have been telling friends about it since we returned. A really pleasant stay and we will return.
Great location and charming intimate hotel

Great location, near everything but quieter, great cafes and restaurants and local flavor. The most value for the budget! Very clean, cozy and updated. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was very good. We would definitely return.
Very nice stay

I stayed at The Staunton Hotel for 3 nights in September. Upon arrival, I was told I was staying downstairs on the lower level (the basement.) I was NOT very happy, but no other rooms were available until the next day, so I had no choice. I brought my luggage down the stairs (no elevator) and wondered if the fact that it was right across the hall from the breakfast room would pose a noise issue. The room wasn't as dark as I thought it would be, as it had a full-sized door to a tiny patio, which was unfortunately inaccessible, due to scaffolding. The air conditioning wasn't working so they came to try to fix it while I was out sightseeing. It was fixed and I slept fairly well. The bed wasn't the best....definitely older and needs replacing. The hotel is located on a busy road so there was some noise in the morning. The location is excellent though....near the British Museum, many restaurants and public transportation. I found the staff to be helpful....especially Renya, Valentina and Asim. The breakfasts were OUTSTANDING...fresh, cooked-to-order and plentiful. The housekeeping staff kept everything extremely clean. I didn't end up changing rooms after all. Staying on the lower level was fine and there was no noise at all from the hallway There was actually an extra door preventing noise. I would recommend the Staunton Hotel.
Nice hotel, comfortable and clean and in a nice area.

A very convenient hotel, reasonably priced and clean and comfortable. The rooms are lovely and it's nice that you can't really hear the traffic going by. We were on the 3rd floor which was perfect for us but if you had small children or lots of luggage, it could be a struggle but this is expected given the age of the building. Had a great nights sleep and the beds were very comfortable.
Breakfast was okay, nothing special but set us up for the day. We went down for breakfast just after 7:30 and there was nobody there but lots of laughing coming from the kitchen. It was nice to hear people enjoying their jobs, especially at that time of the morning!
All in all, would definitely recommend as a place to stay for a night or two, excellent reception staff and good all round hotel!
