Friendly and comfortable
fatboytomon 16/11/2017 10:08Spent 4 nights at the Mount Soche to attend a conference. It's a comfortable and friendly hotel, and I'd recommend a stay if you're visiting Blantyre.
The staff are incredibly attentive and make sure that everything throughout your visit happens effortlessly. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and quiet - they are a little tired but more than adequate for the visit.
The hotel has good gym, and a well maintained swimming pool which is nice for a dip at the start or end of the day. The food is plentiful, with lots of choices. The WiFi is free but slow.
A top hotel and restaurant
HansK774on 07/11/2017 10:21Once and a while you need a break and this is certainly one in busy Blantyre. Yes it is expensive but as I say a nice experience in daily life.
I was in a business meeting here having diner with colleagues and enjoyed very much
Clean room with nice views but many areas to be improved
MarcelaTorreson 30/10/2017 15:21I stayed at Sunbird Mount Soche with a big group of people for a conference. My room was very clean, a little outdated but cozy nonetheless. I had a nice view of the pool and the yard with a mountain as the backdrop. The housekeeping staff were excellent, however, the front desk staff wasn't very helpful. I asked about a vegetarian Indian restaurant that I knew was close by but wasn't sure if they took credit card. The staff didn't care to call and ask, they plainly said they just didn't have their phone number. I walked to the restaurant, it was just a few blocks away and it was great, they didn't take credit cards though. I think the hotel staff could make note of this things as I am sure I am not the only one asking about a place to eat outside the hotel.
The breakfast, lunch, and dinners were very good. The staff at the restaurant was very attentive. I had juices and coke with ice and I didn't get sick :).
The location of the hotel is great, there is a bank right across the street with ATMs that didn't charge me an ATM fee. There is a small market that sells crafts a bloc away from the hotel, right behind the bank, and a PEP supermarket four blocks away where I bought Marula, water, and snacks.
At night the electricity kept going out so just FYI. During the day when we were at the main conference room and the electricity would go out, the generator will fill the room with smoke and we had to leave a few times to continue our meeting outside.
Overall the hotel has a good location and great restaurant and housekeeping staff. However, I found it to be overpriced given the areas of improvement just like customer service at the front desk, preventing the conference room to get flooded with smoke from the generator, and just cutting off the generator when there are power outages at night as opposed to leaving it to turn on and off every three minutes.
An Oasis with attentive staff
Henry Son 27/10/2017 12:35This is a comfortable place with nicely appointed rooms and well maintained - although my room’s window frame was bent and there was a small gap, it is Malawi after all. The restaurant is very good and the bar is a comfortable place to lounge. Food is also very good. Nice pool and gym. Can’t thank staff enough as I fell ill and hotel staff checked in several times to make sure I was ok. This is a good place to stay and the backside pool and grounds is a great place to chill and look over Blantyre.
Cozy and Convenient
Tafirenyikaon 30/09/2017 18:36The Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre City is a well-situated hotel in the southern city. I had a memorable time the staff was really doing their best to ensure my stay was as comfortable as possible showed with smiling greetings by staff from the swimming pool minder, cleaners, chefs and those in administration. Generally, all staff has an idea of how the hotel functions which make getting around much easier. The food was good and there was always some local delicacies to dig into, lovely. You will enjoy the unique Wednesday service.
I could also make calls directly from my room without going through the switchboard, there is 24hr unlimited wifi connection.
