Shocking service and state of room

We arrived there and were told that we were booked into a smoking room. We are both non-smokers so this was a bad start. the room was a shambles. The chairs were grubby and collapsing. The plug in the basin didn't seal and the fridge was out of order. There were electrical problems. Despite reporting the fridge problem twice nothing was done. When I checked out, the Manager on duty, Deseree Scott informed me that the fridge was working despite the fact that I had just come from the room where the fridge was still warm. She had such a bad attitude and refused to budge out of her chair and go look. I asked for the owner's contact details which she refused to provide. The cherry on top was that I was charged twice for our stay there and I now have to complete a dispute form with my bank to get it reversed.

Room was clean, but everything is so old, holes in blankets, broken heater/ac unit, furniture falling apart. Not worth the 75$ paid.

Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here

Our stay at Super 8 was a disaster in all but one small respect. First, the hallways and elevator smelled bad - like a cross between the aroma of a 1970's bowling alley and a doctor's office waiting room in flu season. The bathroom spigot was leaking. It wasn't a drip, but rather a small stream of water. We could not turn it off as the knob was stripped. So, too, was the knob on the vanity sink. One of the two rooms we booked had nasty and sizeable mold spots in the bathroom. The other bathroom had patches on the wall that looked like they were made of peanut butter and applied with a pitchfork. The AC cover kept falling off, and the unit itself had the gentle purr of a Cessna missing two sparkplugs and one prop blade. We booked the room for four adults, but were only left with two sets of towels and washcloths. Many of the TV stations came in very fuzzy, but a good jiggle of the old cable fixed it to a degree. On the second day of our stay, we reported the bathtub spigot. An employee came in to work on the issue, then disappeared. Then the front desk called to say we had to change rooms because the leak issue was major. The proposed new room had no fridge, which presented a problem as we had perishable foods to store during our stay. Luckily, I was able to convince the heretofore apathetic and possibly narcoleptic desk worker to have the maintenance worker bring the fridge from the abandoned room to the new one. This young man was very pleasant and helpful (the sole bright spot). He earned a piece of homemade pumpkin pie for his trouble. We called the front desk to ask for a discount, and were told we would save $10 for our trouble. A 50% discount, sincere apology and perhaps a tetanus shot would have been more appropriate given what we experienced. I understand that Super 8 does not position or advertise itself as the Waldorf Astoria, but the shoddy (and I'm being kind with that adjective) repairs, apathetic front desk service, funky smell that even now is burned past my sinuses into my soul, and broken down or cheap fixtures and furnishings make the Super 8 in Charlottesville a good candidate for overflow boarding and torture of Guantanamo Bay inmates that don't respond to lesser punishments like waterboarding, fingernail pulling or subjugation to Carpenter's music.

Reviews for this property were pretty good Maybe I had a bad room, but I'd never stay there again. For $100 per night, I was expecting so much more. The room smelled of mold. The bed was tilted. I started in the center and ended at the edge. Carpet was buckled along the edges. Bathroom curtain didn't close so the floor ended up wet.

Cheap but cheap quality

Unfriendly staff upon check in. Said I almost missed cut off for her audit even though it was around midnight checking in. Each time I went back to my room after work, the keys didn’t work and had to get them reprogrammed. Breakfast options were very limited and mediocre. Room was to be expected based on the price
