Good service despite language barrier

Central location, short bus ride away from railway and bus stations. Most staff spoke little to know English (except for one), but tried their best to communicate and meet my expectations. In fact the staff seemed more customer-oriented than in most places in China. Buffet breakfast is convenient and good value. Room was very large and clean.
Located at a busy roundabout, and therefore lots of noise coming from the street in the late evening and early morning. It would be impossible to take a nap in the afternoon if you're in a room facing the street. Very, very slow wifi - almost impossible to get anything done.
Perfect location

Located right across from the Summer Palace, it's a great place to stay. There are lots of places to eat around as well as banks. The room is fine. It's a Super 8, so you're not going to get luxury here. But, it's clean, spacious, has an air conditioner, and a big bathroom. I asked for a quiet room off the street and got one.
The only issues I have really is that the room smells like smoke and the curtains are hanging off of the track. You can't curtain off the windows properly. Other than that, it's good value for the money.
Would stay again

Lots have been said here but let me just say a few things
-internet claims to have broad band...thats a joke...wifi barely worked
-it is very loud outside so if that is an issue for you make sure to get a room on the inside
-location great for sightseeing with main entrance 5 min walk away
-I took the trian up and then a taxi early in the morning (taxi 13CNY)
-staff spoke a little english but you have to find the right one
-just 2-3 min down towards the main entrance (on the same side) there is a rather large "local" restaurant (self serving style) with excellent and cheap food...You walk around inside and can pick your own small dishes -and some bigger ones-its perfect if you want to try out different things...I ended up eating there 3 days in a row...highly recommended
Good value

Hotel is good value for the price: clean, simple, has all basic things you need. "-" : very noisy street in front of hotel (ask for room on another side), AC is also noisy. breakfast is very chinese and simple. "+": stuff is very friendly, speak some english, room is spacious and clean, very convenient location. Take 10 min walk to The Palace, bus 6 to Puning tample, bus 118 to Putuo temple (Small Patala). 1 RMB per ride. Very tasty food in self-service buffet eatery 筷车一族。(50 meters on the left from the hotel ) which is open 6.30 - 20.30.
Clean and friendly

We were only here for an overnight trip and did not spend much time at the hotel. It displays the normal wear and tear you might expect from an older hotel but it was clean, and the staff was very friendly. Our room had the faint smell of lingering cigarette smoke. We should have asked for a nonsmoking one. There are basic amenities but no wash towels or lotion.
The breakfast was okay but definitely nothing to write home about. It is inexpensive and the customer service is great.
The location of the hotel is what makes it a good deal. There are restaurants and a night market within walking distance. Plus, it is a short walk to the main entrance of the Emperor's Summer Resort.
The only thing that bothered me was the early morning construction. By 7AM, there was a great deal of drilling and hammering to be heard. We were already up and ready to head out for the day but it would have sent me through the roof back when I didn't have kids and was able to sleep in.
