What People are saying

High Swinton Cottage

Celine C on 20/11/2017 12:10

We have been regulars at Swinton Park for a while but since childminding duties have come along with the arrival of grandchildren trying to squeeze a trip to my favourite hotels has been difficult. However, we managed it last week! Unfortunately our favourite rooms were not available for our 2 night stay but the new High Swinton Cottage was! So we booked having never stayed in the 3 bed cottage before.
It's room only but we booked breakfast in the Samuels restaurant morning one & the terrace restaurant morning two, although the cottage has an amazing country kitchen in it so we could have brought our breakfast with us!
Staying at the cottage you still have use of full spa facilities which we used 3 times. It's a really lovely spa, with a great thermal suite but I did fine the pool a little too cool compared to the spa pools at Dormy House & Ragdale Hall which i visited recently as day guests. Not sure if suitable to take babies into the pool during the kids session...might be too cold. Also thought it a bit odd though that for something so new a few things were broken! A locker, a shower cubicle lock, a hair dryer that didn't warm up & in the thermal suite it had something you could use in the pool that didn't work either.
Anyway, breakfast in Samuels was fantastic as per usual, best breakfast in my opinion. The terrace breakfast is called brunch so was a bit different! No cereal or toast or full english so if that's what you really want than book always in the Samuels restaurant.
We had dinner in the terrace restaurant the day we arrived & brunch the morning we left! On both occasions we were there alone....not something that bothers me but other folks might not like it! Think it was because we booked dinner for 6.30pm & brunch at 9.15pm?
The food we had was lovely but on both occasions I thought the menu was a bit limited!
The 3 bed cottage is lovely & a great place to stay as a larger family. If you want peace, privacy, enclosed garden, use of a kitchen, dinning room, sitting room, 2 toilets etc this is the cottage to book! My only gripe is keeping downstairs warm. The cottage thermostat is on the upstairs landing. Upstairs was very toasty but we struggle in the evening to sit downstairs to watch telly for an hour despite the thermostat set on 25 upstairs! Both the lounge & kitchen have fires & in these cold winter months they are definitely needed for the cottage. Our problem was we only wanted to sit in the lounge for an hour so thought it was a bit too much effort to light one before going up to bed! So top tip make use of the 2 fires downstairs, especially if you are making use of the bed settees that are in the lounge, it will add to the warmth & enhance you cottage stay! Of course not a problem in the spring, summer & early autumn months.
Just one other thing to point out there is a lovely bar attached to the Terrace restaurant & that is really worth a visit & the do bar food which you can also order if you are a spa guest!
Overall a lovely 2 day break once again.

A great way to start the Christmas season

I booked one of the Junior Suites for my fiancé birthday and was delighted that on arrival whilst they were preparing our room we were handed a glass of champagne.

The huge fireplaces and cosy furniture mean you feel right at home. They were starting to the put the Christmas decorations up whilst we were there and you couldn’t help but feel the magic of the place.

Our room was beautiful and had so much space it almost seemed wasted on us as we were only there for one night.

We ate in Samuels restaurant and although a touch on the high price completely worth it. Wouldn’t hesitate staying again for a quick trip away!

Superb new Spa adds even more to a great venue.

Spent the weekend at Swinton Park and used the new Spa, which is modern and well equipped. Superb and knowledgable staff. The outside area is very relaxing and the new Steam Rooms are exceptional.
We ate in Samuels restaurant both nights.Fabulous food and good service. Can recommend the raspberry soufflé.....off the scale !

Excellent return visit with new discoveries to enjoy

GailW2100 on 08/11/2017 21:41

Just returned from an excellent three night stay at Swinton Park. We have stayed several times and the hotel just seems to continually improve with yet more activities and facilities available topped off with excellent personal service.

I think the highlight of this most recent trip has to be the excellent estate tour with Tony who is one of the Estate's forest rangers who is extremely knowledgeable and showed us some of the off the beaten track parts of the 20,000 acre estate which otherwise you would never have access to. At £20 per person for a two hour tour in one of the hotel's 4x4s we thought this was extremely good value (we booked this in advance of our stay via reception).

We were able to enjoy the fabulous new spa which is of an exceptional standard. Entry to the spa is complimentary for hotel guests whilst checked in. It has an inside salt water pool and an extensive adult only wet spa area with various hot and cold experiences to indulge and relax in both indoors and outdoors. The changing facilities are also top notch as is their treatment menu.

We took part in a Chef's table dinner on the Friday night in the cookery school which was excellent and included in our DBB package (you do need to book this in advance), the chef Kevin is extremely talented and entertaining and we enjoyed a delicious three course meal cooked for our enjoyment in front of us with four other guests. A really entertaining experience which I would highly recommend.

On our last night we had dinner in the new Terrace restaurant which provides a more informal option with some excellent steaks on the menu in a modern environment with a show kitchen. There is also a good bar in there which provides a good alternative to the hotel with a top young bar tender who serves an excellent Irish coffee and is interested in the drinks he's serving.

Thank you to Hamish and his front of house team for looking after us again, we're very much looking forward to our return stay booked for the New Years package which looks fantastic.

Best birthday present ever

Martin R on 08/11/2017 20:35

I recently stopped here for a night as a gift for my 40th birthday!

As soon as we got there to check in we were seated and brought a glass of prossecco whilst we waited for our room (we were early for something for once) it was only a short time and then we were shown to our room!

We stayed in the Turret and what an amazing room to have had, or should I say 3 rooms on 3 floors all to ourselves for the night!
We had booked for dinner that evening where the service and food was excellent, we couldn't fault it one bit! We had full use of the new spa which we took advantage of and even got into the hot tub on our morning of departure whilst it was frost on the ground and -2 in the air!

We had afternoon tea and drinks in the new terrace restaurant, Swinton park has really gone above and beyond with this new establishment! This is the 1st time we have been to Swinton park and the Spa & country club and will definitely be back there soon!

From start to finish our stay was brilliant and made it the best birthday present ever!
