Amazing Stay

I stayed in the Taj for 3 nights in October and it was a great experience. The staff are extremely helpful and the attention to detail was excellent! There is a great selection of restaurants and a lovely pool area (although I didn't really have time to use it). Definitely recommend!

Everything done right

This trip in Chennai, there were uncertainties with my arrival dates: one week in September and two weeks plus in October. I know I cannot go wrong with Taj Coromandel, the staff there will somehow make things work for me. This time, I was given a very pleasant room on the fourth floor. Even as the space was smaller, relative to other Hotel most of my colleagues frequent, everything was set up nicely and I felt comfortable, settling in right away.

The Meet and Greet was reliable, I know Taj C will not forget me even if the plane got delayed or the luggage took a little longer. I was happy to arrive and checked in promptly by the welcoming Neemkit. So good to ‘return home’ as I could meet the staff again:
The doormen: Ramesh and Joseph, security who screens us discreetly. It is no wonder this Hotel is a choice one for VIPs all over. My luggage were sorted out in no time; throughout my stay, I received kind assistance from: Ramakrishnan, Albert, Selvarajkumar, Kannan (other staff at the Bell Desk—no fuss, just quick, efficient service!).

The next morning, I was happy to meet Ms Shobhana again. She always makes me feel welcomed like i have arrived home. I like to thank her and the Duty Manager, Mr Aswin’s leadership and the team of pleasant and efficient staff: Neemkit, Hmani, Siddharta, Tushar, Jhon. Coping with the newly introduced GST and having to get my bills presented in a certain way become non issue with their help. I also noted that the Front Desk staff are equally pleasant and helpful when one catches them on their night shifts.

At the Anise 24 hour Restaurant, I was pleased to meet: Mr Sagayaraj, Chef Kannan, Kuppu, Subbu, Pandityan, Soham, Jaikumar, Parang again. Spoilt daily by the staff, I stay healthy with the very tasty breakfast fare. The best dosa has to be from Taj Coromandel. Thank you, Chef Kannan and all who switched me from eating pancakes to Dosa!

Jiva Spa is where I head to for destressing. Dr Hemanth Kumar is reassuring and knowledgeable. I highly recommend private Yoga sessions with Sarika who customized healing and insightful sessions for my needs. Thank You! I was happy to meet Mr Venkatesh at the front desk; he helped me with booking my session with Dorothy, a good therapist.

I was happy that Taj has a shop on premise to browse and to purchase one of a kind pieces. Mahesh, Lovely and Nitya are patient and gave me good advice on the merchandise available. Albeit pricey, I always like to carry few limited pieces from the shop.

With my work hours extended into the night, Golden Dragon became my go-to place for dinner. I usually order and request for delivery to my room. Even as my order is small, I was always treated like a VIP by Mr Prabhu Rao and his team to include: Dwaraka, Noor, Benjamin, Pankaj. Food is delicious, authentic Chinese fare, thanks to the Chef (especially Cantonese Fried Rice). I also want to thank the Private Dining Staff for delivering the food to my room promptly every night. The Taj standard of responding to guests calls by the third ring: BEST!

Last but not least, my stay would not have been as comfortable if not for the hardwork and meticulous care by the Housekeeping team led by Mr Soban: Shilpa, Divakar and any of their colleagues who serviced my room did a fantastic job. I could not be more grateful.

Would definitely recommend Taj Coromandel for my VIP guests as a very nice introduction to classic Indian Hospitality: distinguished service, gold standard. A Big Thank you to Taj Coromandel and its staff, including all who have helped but whose names may not have been mentioned--my apologies. I had a very pleasant stay and many more fond memories of Chennai because of you.

Introducing The Taj Family

_chrishorner04 on 16/11/2017 20:28

I have had just had my 3rd happy visit to this wonderful hotel, working,as on previous occasions as a Music Examiner for Trinity College London. i have already written 2 reviews about the Taj so I've gone for a different approach for my 3rd. I would like to give you a Who's Who of the people who work there and before I go any further, I warn you, that there are quite a few names I'm going to give you. So do yourself a big favour and put this on your phone-just as easy as your Boarding Pass or Ticket isn't it?-and then it's all there for when you arrive, unless you're the non techi type who likes to write things down, in which case, reach for your pen and paper now... There will not be a quiz on the names at the end I promise!
If you arrive at the Taj at a civilised hour (I don't usually!) then you'll meet Shobhana at the desk. one visit I arrived she was not there for a few days and the place didn't feel quite the same;she knows everyone and everything about who runs what in the Hotel and if she's not the one to help you, she knows who is. Shreya was part of my first welcome at the Taj and placed the beautiful garland round my neck. By the way, they'll do that for you if you arrive at 6.30am,there's no dumbing down of the Taj Welcome. There's Vinod on the Travel Desk-what a wizard-he'll do your airport check in before you've even had time to put your passport on the desk! And what else...he explained to me the rules of Kabbadi, gave me info about the Kerala v Chennai football match which I really enjoyed going to and has assisted me and fellow examiners in organising trips on our weekend days off to Mahabalipuram, Dakshinachitra, the Taj's "sister" resort of Fisherman's Cove as well as all the local places of interest which are so worth seeing. Sorry if I have a name wrong here, but I believe it's Venkat whom his colleagues refer to as "the one with a tie" even though all the guys have ties and are impeccably dressed. He has the most wonderful collection of smart coloured ties but is always on the lookout for something different;he even asked me once where I'd got mine from. It was local-I think I told him. There's also Siddarth, who like everyone else in the Reception area is such good company and will chat any hour, day or night, don't know how he does it! That's Reception sorted, now on to Anise as you'll be needing something no doubt...
This is the 24 hour coffee/breakfast bar, buffet and restaurant where you can get a great variety of food, and there are still 3 restaurants to savour! I always make a beeline for Subbu who makes the meanest Masala tea in Madras-he's also very generous with the top ups! James is young but is pretty nifty with the Masala too. Another name I forget, I believe he's a Manager, has a knowledge of the Premier League which would put many a Brit to shame-we've had some great chats. I'd just like to say, that's how the Taj is. When you're travelling away from home, mealtimes can be a bit lonely without the family and Taj staff sense when you're happy for a chat. It has certainly helped me when I might otherwise be feeling a bit down. There's also the tall gentleman with glasses who also served us in Southern Spice, the restaurant which specialises in Southern Indian cuisine- a great team all of them.
Remember those times when you were a teenager and came home asking your mother to cook you something in 10 minutes, only to say that you were going out again in 20? My own mother would be embarrassed were I to try this in a 5 Star hotel, but I did. I had some evenings when I had to go out and rehearse with local musicians and had little time to eat. Both Joseph in Anise and Anand in Prego, the great Italian restaurant did this for me on several occasions. It felt a crime having to eat such wonderful food so quickly but it certainly gave me the energy for some pretty gruelling evenings! The staff in all the restaurants are so friendly in helpful. For those from outside India; if you wonder whether you can find authentic Italian food in India, you can and the Taj does. These chefs have spent time working with Italian chefs and they know what they're doing. Actually, the worst Italian food I have eaten was in Italy, but that's another story...Don't forget the Golden Dragon, the Chinese restaurant-really authentic food, a chef from Hong Kong. Need I say more?
Now for some exercise....The Fitness Suite, Spa and Pool are all on the Lower Ground Floor and, wait for it, are open from 6am-10pm 7 days a week! I'm a swimmer so I only use the pool;colleagues of mine have used the facilities and say they are excellent. Shekhar and Govind have looked after me very well at the pool, sometimes coming to give me a shout for when I lose track of time during my lengths and should really be making calls home...
My room was beautifully looked after by Sekar and Anup of Housekeeping runs the floor very well and is always on hand for queries and is also great for a chat.
So there you have it. Sorry to anyone who's name I have forgotten. You're all stars for me, really.
Sounds too good to be true doesn't it, but no, that it what your going to find at this highly personable Hotel, full of great teams who just want to make your stay as good as it can be, and better.

So now you're ready to go...Enjoy,you'll have a great time

Perfect in every way

mmarinoglou on 15/11/2017 12:30

The room was a 5 star s hotel room luxury standards but......The Service,Reception desk and most important.....the guys from Concierge s desk were "the perfection"They went out of their way in oder to help you....In a city that tourists are rare, these people were professionals and even more.It is a good lesson for the USA and Europe s hotels to take some lessons of what professional hospitality means in 5 stars hotels!I have more to say about an exceptional restaurant in the hotel......but this is another chapter.
