Good hotel for business purposes and for entertaining clients. The Regency bar is ideal for informal gatherings and the Terrace restaurant perfect for breakfast meetings. Special mention to the chef for churning out great food.
yesteryear.... but not the same service and quality

This is one of Jamaica's original Kingston city gems.. only other hotel that could claim to have seen the number of engagement rings pass over its tables would be the now and sadly defunct Blue Mountain Inn of Dr. No fame. Interestingly both once were graced by Italian uber Chef (90 michelin stars as far as i'm concerned :) ) Roque Pavesi.
Anyway... was Chris Blackwell's home I think (Bob Marley producer fame and hotelier himself) and I believe he's a silent owner again.
Attended a 'the dansant' there with sumptuous food but they refused to pack huge remains... huge waste ....and one night I went to dinner and the tiramisu had 'plastic creme' in it (obviously hydrogenated oils etc.) So although food good for the most part, you can still get some shocks
The Regency Bar is a bit over the top for me except its charming exterior... regretably staff has no clue about appropriate music selection
Setting as ever is romantic Jamaica heyday when it was a British playground and the family whose anniversary I attended there were thrilled with the whole experience ... staff loves lovers especially senior ones :)
High tea with style

Had High Tea at the end of August with a dear friend to celebrate her special day.
It was delightful and we were among the last to leave.
We caught up with each other as we had been in contact for some time.
We laughed and giggled like school girls.
The wait staff was very good. The tea as well as the buffet selection was wide and the usual Terra Nova standard.
We wanted our privacy which was respected by the media.
Traditional Excellence & Charm Meets Contemporary Style & White Clove Hospitality

The Terra Nova exceeds expectations at every opportunity. Upon entry you are greeted by 24 hour manned security who keep a watchful eye of the immaculate property and welcomed guests. Once a great house that catered to celebs like Chris Blackwell it is now a full service luxury facility with all the creature comforts of home. The traditional entrance is complimented by white glove service at every turn. Hotel suites are contemporary clean & comfortable. Food is authentic and exquisite, as a result it the hotel hosts a popular Sunday brunch series. Regency bar and lounge is also on the property and a hometown favorite . This property is a must if staying in Kingston
A real pleasure...

The approaches to the hotel don't fill one with confidence as it is located between two fairly busy main roads, but once through the ubiquitous security barrier, you enter a little world of peace and tranquility. The staff are all really welcoming, and are happy to go out of their way to help. The hotel itself is a unusual mix of different parts, but they all come together to give a nice feel. The room is a decent size, but I'd be careful of quite what is meant by 'suite.' This may have a different meaning in Jamaica, but the room isn't a suite by European standards. Its a good sized double room with a very comfortable king size bed, ensuite bathroom and a sofa bed. Like everywhere inside the hotel the room was clinically clean and nicely presented.
There is a small outside swimming pool, but regrettably this is now showing signs of wear. I guess its a vicious circle but in my 4 days I was the only person that used it (to my knowledge) and as it isn't much in demand it doesn't really get looked after. The pool is surrounded by trees, which is nice for privacy, but not good for pool cleanliness. More care should be taken in keeping it clear of leaves at least a couple of times a day.
Food was good in the main restaurant, expensive, but good. The buffet breakfast in the main restaurant was excellent and catered for American, UK and local tastes. Again the staff were really excellent taking care to ensure that you had exactly what you needed.
One gripe. The hotel is used for a lot of local corporate events, and when one of these is on it puts major stress on the food/bar areas. I waited 90 minutes for a bar meal whilst one of these was underway, and when it finally did arrive, it was cold. When asked to take it away, the bar manager, who had offered apologies, turned her nose up, grabbed the plate and stormed off. The attention of the staff took an interesting twist here too as one of the young waiters decided to approach my girlfriend whilst I was at the bar and ask her for her telephone number! That may be taking customer care just a step too far....
