My parents rented the Forest Country Retreat and Mansion on Sawmill Lake for them and all seven of their daughters, husbands and grandkids.
Only four daughters spent the night, but we stayed in the mansion and my parents stayed in the cabin with all of the kids. It was absolutely PERFECT! We grilled burgers and hotdogs while the kids chased lightning bugs and played in the water hose. We also had a professional photographer come to take family pictures down by the lake. It was so peaceful to sit out on the patio and listen to the frogs, coyotes and birds. My husband and I slept in the Ruby Room and will probably be buying that mattress when I can find one! The robes were soft and the water pressure was great!

Wow where do I start? I absolutely LOVE everything that Texas Forest Country Retreat has to offer! This is hands down the most beautiful place I've ever been- it's tucked away in the beautiful pines of East Texas. From the first time we (my husband and I) set eyes on the Mansion on Sawmill Lake we knew we had to get married under the gorgeous tree overlooking the pond. We got married May 28, 2016 and our wedding couldn't have been more perfect. Jennifer Coogler is the wedding coordinator/innkeeper at the Bed & Breakfast and I cannot thank her enough for everything she did to make sure our wedding was beautiful. Texas Forest Country Retreat has so much wonderful family history it's truly amazing. I had the pleasure of meeting Bob the owner the day of our wedding and he was so kind and has the sweetest southern drawl. If you are looking for a place to say your "I do's" or simply a relaxing weekend away-I would highly recommend visiting Texas Forest Country Retreat. I know we'll definitely be back to visit in the near future.

We stayed two nights in this lovely home. It was very romantic. We had a sun room connected to our bedroom. The host does not live in this home but allows guests to have full roam of the place. We enjoyed the huge fireplace in the front living room. It made the experience so much more comfortable and inviting. The other couple staying upstairs were very friendly and interesting. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful! The host is a great cook! Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we enjoyed relaxing, reading in the library and exploring the property surrounding this home.

My husband and I stayed at The Mansion on Sawmill Lake for two nights in early December. We roomed in the main house, and a wonderful historic building it was. The Texas history associated with the property is really interesting, and was a definite bonus; it was fun to explore. I felt like we were going back to a quieter time in the past, and that added to the ambiance of the place! Our hosts had decorated the entire house for Christmas, and we felt cozy and welcome at once. The grounds were simply gorgeous, and the food served us was delicious! My husband likes to fish, and he did so both mornings,as steps away from the porch was a pond with a beautiful view. He said there were hungry fish in it! We love a real fire in the fireplace, and our attentive innkeepers made sure that we had plenty of wood for a warm and mesmerizing fire. It was fun, and the experience was made complete by the endearing hospitality of our innkeepers. We loved it, and intend to return.

My wife and I chose the Mansion on Sawmill Lake as our place to stay, and it was more than we could have hoped for. The historic mansion and the surrounding land are simply beautiful. For those that like to read a little, there's a great deal of interesting history about the area formerly known as Manning. Books and pamphlets concerning this are provided in the mansion for you to look at at your leisure. The days and nights are very quiet and peaceful. The innkeepers were FANTASTIC! Breakfast was so good, that it was almost worth the trip just for that! The location is about 30 minutes away from Lufkin. The downtown area of Lufkin is worth at least one visit, as they have a number of unique shops and restaurants. I'd definitely recommend this place to any couples looking to get a way for a few days. We're already thinking about when we want to visit again, as we'll definitely go back.
