I stayed at the Berkeley on business in November. This is a very conveniently located hotel with lots of charm on a cobblestone street. If you like historic, older hotels, you should enjoy staying here.
The lobby area is relatively small, but has lots of wood. There are very nice prints with historic Virginia themes (my favorite was the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown on the 6th floor) on the elevator landing on each floor.
My room was spacious and well decorated and even had a balcony you could sit on (I did not, as it was raining during my stay). There are modern amenities throughout including wi-fi included in the price, a flat panel TV and a well-decorated modern bathroom.
I like older hotels and their personality, but that also means the occasional quirk. If you want a large hotel with immediate conveniences, this might be a little slow for you. Personally, I like the more genteel atmosphere, but that is really up to you.
By the way, there is a good selection of restaurants on the nice street, including a nice coffee shop housed in an old warehouse (as well as a more modern Starbucks if you prefer), an excellent French bistro, and moderate Mexican and Japanese restaurants as well.
This is a charming place to stay in a nice area of Richmond.

My daughter and I stayed at the Berkeley Hotel the night before our race. The room was lovely, big, and quite comfortable. I liked that they have a 12:00 p.m. checkout giving us a little more time to clean up after running. I would definitely stay there again.

Worst management ever. We had this hotel booked for over two years and between people switching management, not putting in our correct dates, not notifying us of the multiple price change in rooms for our guests and then booking our bridal suite to another couple the weekend of our wedding after two years of having it, this was the worst management experience ever. Do not make a room block here, or bridal suite for getting ready if you want a stress free experience.

No complaints about this very cute hotel. The room this trip was massive and plush. It was a pleasure to stay at such a great hotel. The dinning hall still needs work, better trained staff. The food was good, I would recommend the pork chops, but avoid all the carbs and try the muffin. Server forgot to get a steak knife so cutting the pork was a chore. Didn't go back for breakfast.

The hotel is comfortable, clean and well located. The staff are friendly and helpful. A great place to stay. We would recommend it to anyone looking to stay short or long term in Richmond. We enjoyed ourselves.
