Good spot!
Cbusby1on 24/10/2017 21:49Nice and clean, good location and great breakfast in the morning (I had the Ulster fry) Only a few minutes in the car from Newcastle town centre but felt secluded and quiet. We had a deluxe room which was spacious! Only down side was that few of tv channels wouldn’t work
Can not recommend!
anne2000on 24/10/2017 09:07First the one plus. Quiet rural location. Breakfast was ok. Wouldn't recommend the porridge. Some rooms have been refurbished and are reportedly lovely. The refurbishment hadn't reached our room. Understandable but room cost us £100. This is in an area where nice hotels are available for same price. I was told by Maureen if the room had been refurbished it would have cost £120! for what is really a B&B?? lol. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. I could feel the springs hurting my back. On investigation I found the mattress was really old and scruffy. horrible! bathroom had mould and dirt round taps and tiles, bathroom floor covering very old and worn- did not like walking on it. toilet flush button broken. fan much noisier than normal- so couldn't put bathroom lights on during the night! no plug sockets to dry hair/charge phone without unplugging lights. lights too dim-no central light-only lamps. bedding old and faded. No tea making facilities in room. About 6 stations available on TV. As I told Maureen next morning I could forgive most of these but not the pain and discomfort caused by the old mattress and the loss of a nights sleep. I advised her that whilst waiting for refurb it would be wise to invest in a new mattress. She didn't apologise and she (and her employee who was standing beside her!) were both unpleasant about my complaint. However I feel I did the right thing in being honest with them rather than say it was fine then go away and publish a negative review.
The briers
roasleenon 04/10/2017 11:34Maureen was very friendly. The briers was clean. The decor in the room was plain & dated. I had the worse night's sleep. Bed was very uncomfortable. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. Staff were very friendly.
Absolute Bliss!
heatbetron 04/09/2017 23:29Highly recommended. Warm friendly welcome. Good sleep on a comfy bed. Sooo quiet, time away from life's stresses. Nestled in a great location with beautiful views of the Mourne Mountains. Short walk from Tollymore Forest. Breakfast delicious, freshly made plenty of choice.
Nothing too much trouble for this host/staff.
Great stay
Alison Pon 03/09/2017 19:00We were a group of 8 friends who meet up annually...the Briars was exellent..the staff were so accomodating and helpful.the beds were fab and i was so sorry not to stay longer as i felt relaxed and refreshed. I had been very worried as i ready the review and a few were less than positive but i can assume you that the Briars was top notch
