Good Location but be aware!

The Cathedral Hotel is very well located in the City Centre and is a short walk to the Cathedral and various Shops and Restaurants.
Things to note: The Hotel does NOT have a car park, staff guide you to a Council run car park on Culver Street which is about a five minute walk away. Worth checking the parking charges & times. £8 all day free on Sunday.
If your looking for a relaxing weekend the Hotel lounge turns itself into a 'open to the public' restaurant, bar and later nightclub with a loud Disco which goes on into the early hours. Friday evening we had a drink downstairs, there were lots of TV's showing the football and some members of the public were quite loud and rowdy! Once the football had finished the Disco started we left as this wasn't our thing.
Rooms are basic, our room had no view and overall was average.
The Staff weren't the best, first we were given a single room which was very unprofessional. The Cleaners were good. Sunday Morning breakfast was possibly the worst experience my wife and I have ever had at an Hotel. There was no Greeting by staff, we had to find our own table which wasn't straight forward as few tables hadn't been cleared of used items. Afterwards we had to wait between 10-15 mins for the waiter to come over (Same member of Staff that gave us the wrong room) we placed our order and wasn't confident in the outcome. He brought coffee but no tea for myself, he must have realised 5-10 minutes later and brought a large pot of tea which turned out un-drinkable. Breakfast was finally served after quite a wait however they had got my wife's order completely wrong. They apologised and I tucked into my Full English which was almost cold! I'd finished my breakfast, had my Yogurt when my wife got fed up of waiting and mentioned to another member of staff that she was still waiting and re-stated her order. The member of staff apologised and went to find out what was happening. Soon afterwards she returned with my wife's breakfast, Guess what? It still wasn't what my wife had asked for, but she accepted it because by this time the breakfast experience was making us late for the day's activities.
Salisbury is wonderful and I'd certainly go again. Tower Tour at the Cathedral recommended. Would I stop at the Cathedral Hotel again? NO
Handy location doesn't make up for the noise of the disco on the ground floor.

Firstly the good points - The staff were very helpful, although having the receptionist doubling as the waitress on a busy Saturday lunchtime might not be the best way of running a hotel. The towels in the bath room were large and white and fluffy and good quality.
However there was a major downside to this hotel - The ground floor of the hotel is actually a bar / pub. On the Saturday night there was a disco / club running till 2 a.m. My room was on the 3rd floor but at the back of the hotel and it sounded as if the Macarena was playing in my room at about 1.30 am. Additionally the people at the club were smoking out the back and got louder and louder until the bar closed.
I did not get back to sleep until gone 3 am. The bathroom in my room could have done with better cleaning. Although the towels were very good, the pillows were very poor.
Music and mould

The atmosphere was dismal ,with a busy nightclub on the ground floor . The bathroom was very basic with mould growing on the ceiling . The breakfast was awful , no other word for it -very cheap ingedients cooked badly - the " scrambled " egg was more like custard and the coffee was tasteless . The hotel part of the building seemed more like an afterthought with the nightclub being the main attraction. The management gave us three keys so we could unlock the lift and the side door leading to the rooms ,obviously to prevent against drunken teenage invasion . It felt more like a secure unit than a hotel . For the price we paid , I would have expected better service ,better food and less mould !
Okay

Helpful and pleasant staff. Decent beds and clean, reasonably sized room. Good location within walking distance to public car park/garage, and working WiFi included. Broken doorknob and dripping bathroom faucet. Go to breakfast early before they run out of some menu items.
I enjoyed my stay and would stay here again.

Great location for public transport; walking distance to cathedral and museums.
Breakfast included, great service, good dinner, the shower is hot, the room is adequate and earplugs are provided since this seems to be a popular weekend destination for locals.
I'd stay here again.
