Love this hotel
fusseycaton 19/11/2017 14:16Stayed three nights and loved it. It is old with history yet it has been updated and perfectly adequate. My room was at the top and the reception staff kindly carried up my bag and again when I left. The room had everything I required and was very comfortable, the heating could be controlled individually which is a bonus _ I always find hotels too hot. Staff very kind and friendly but not over so. The bar is nice and if you require a quieter room there is a room at the front with sofas and a wood fire. The pool is just across the car park behind the hotel and is a bonus I swam each morning and had it to myself.
There is a little noise from the bar on Saturday only otherwise it was pleasant.
I would certainly go back and explore the countryside which is beautiful, plenty to do in that area.
Would go back don't expect perfection though
culturevulture80on 12/11/2017 18:34Good - Room was very nicely decorated, bathroom well equipped. Mattress good condition and comfy. Lounge-bar is lovely balancing modern decor with nods to the historic building. Food portions huge and food very tasty and well prepared. Great selection of drinks in the bar. Staff all superb throughout my stay.
How to improve - I was in the older part of the building and the corridors to the rooms were a bit horrible with old carpet and rough paintwork. My room at the front needed a voile curtain in addition to the blind so I could have had natural light as well as privacy. The bistro could do with a re-style in line with the lounge- bar.
IF IN THE AREA AND WANTING TO STAY THEN IT IS 'THE DRAGON', MONTGOMERY
NEIL Aon 22/10/2017 19:48We returned after c 36 years to this lovely town. Stayed at The Dragon. 16c building, a bit quirky but, oh, what a great stay. The staff were so helpful, friendly, cheerful and - just great people to chat to.
The food was innovative, flavoursome, tasty and lovely. Many thanks to trhe chef, When we return - it will be to this area, we will always saty at The Dragon.
This town, castle, part ot the UK - part of Wales, has so much history.
Before you visit this wonderful part of the UK - or anywhere else - do as we do and see what there is to do and see in the area. Most places in the world have an interesting history,
Lovely hotel
Sharon Mon 16/10/2017 16:58Spent two nights here whilst my husband walked part of Offas Dyke path. We stayed in one of the premier rooms which was spacious, comfortable and had a lovely bathroom. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The hi light was the meal we had in the bar. We chose the belly pork from the A La Carte menu and it was one of the best meals I've ever eaten. It came with crispy potatoes and a selection of veg. Everything was piping hot and beautifully presented. I can't recommend this hotel highly enough for its food and just wished i lived closer so I could visit more often. Only downside was the very patchy wifi but we knew this before visiting.
