Birthday dinner

We decided on the farmers arms to celebrate my birthday we have eaten here many times before. The restaurant was closed for about three months due to a kitchen fire. Unfortunately they seemed to have lost the excellent chef they had before who produced some of the best chips I'd ever eaten.still ok but just average my wife loved their lasange but this time nothing like it was before
Not as good as it used to be

The first time my daughter and I discovered this place a few years ago we had lunch. The staff were amazing and the food delicious, we couldn't say enough about it.
A year or two later we took my aunt there, and it seemed as if it had had a change in management. The staff were still polite, but the personal banter wasn't there any more. The food seemed as though it wasn't homemade and the burger I ordered wasn't cooked properly, i.e. cold in the centre. The staff apologised and refunded my payment, but as I hadn't been able to eat it I had to leave the establishment hungry!
My aunt and daughter ate their food, but it looked and tasted like a frozen ready-meal, so the high prices seem a bit of a rip-off.
As we are down that way regularly, we'd probably eat there again, but we'd be choosy when it comes to the menu!
No breakfast!

Brompton on Swale is a useful stop-over point on the C2C if you don't want a 23 mile hike in one day.
However, when booking B&B one expects both Bs. We were offered a £5 refund for breakfast but this wasn't enough to cover the cost of a breakfast at a nearby cafe.
There was a reluctance to refund the breakfast cost for an absent member of our party who'd dropped out and this was eventually given to us in coins with extremely bad grace.
Mattresses could do with replacing - could feel the springs in the 2 double beds.
The evening meal was good value for the price - we were offered the 2 for £13.95 option .
Not bad, not good

3 stars as there is plenty to improve but it wasn't a bad experience either.
We stayed a couple of nights here whilst visiting friends. It's an old property above a pub so some things are to be expected e.g. Traffic from road, noise till 11pm etc
The good.
- friendly staff
- decent beer
- decent room
- not too expensive
The bad
- mattress in room 1 is terrible
- bonkers breakfast rule, order by 9pm.
- breakfast was ok at best anyway.
Not sure we would stay here again but it was ok certainly not bad but not great either.
A poor choice on several points

Brompton on Swale is a good idea to break the C2C into more manageable legs. However, construction along the interstate forces a detour around and across some major highways.
The Farmers Arms is on a busy highway with noisy traffic late into the night. A kitchen fire meant only take out food unless you opt for a taxi ride to a nearby town which I did. The fire had occurred six weeks prior to my arrival and had I been informed then I surely would have made other arrangements.
My room was a stones throw from the busy highway and the shower was definitely third rate with very poor pressure and a mechanical grinding sound that a posted sign said was normal.
