I was looking forward to visiting the Feathers just to have a look round and have some lunch but it was closed - apparently to upgrade the plumbing. Fair enough I suppose, but it looks a bit tired at the front and could do with a bit of sprucing up.

Dear Feathers Hotel
We have stayed at your beautiful period hotel many times over the years and have always thoroughly enjoyed our visits. The ambiance of the hotel is exquisite and really takes us back to a different era.We have always found the rooms clean, the bedding spotless, the service extremely efficient and friendly, and the breakfasts very filling and varied in content.
We come to Shropshire for walking holidays and find the Feathers perfect to relax in at the end of the day. Every time we come to England the Feathers is a priority for us and will remain so.
Our sympathies to the guests who had an unfortunate experience and we know you will do everything to fix these problems quickly.
We look forward to our next visit in 2019.

Hoping the new menu would be an improvement on the weary food previously offered, tried the cheese ploughman and received three slices of various cheeses amounting to approximately 1oz or 30g in total weight. The brown greasy roundish thing looked like a rather dirty white playdough overworked by a lot of enthusiastic children. I assumed it was supposed to be a bread thing but kept it untouched and out of sight. I had bought bread whilst shopping so ate that with the supplied couple of bits of cucumber, lettuce accompanied by a quarter of a small tomato and dash of pickle and Half a Pickled Onion. It cost about £9 and decided not to give them the benefit of the doubt again and avoid the place. Hopefully if the hotel reopens every aspect will improve. Especially the playdough thing when the town is renowned for its bakeries.

We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at the Feathers a very old coaching inn. We were in the newer addition, not the historic part, but the room was enormous and the bathroom could accommodate a small dance party! Check-in was efficient and very friendly. It amused us to see a coach tour group arrive with a small mountain of luggage and to watch how the staff managed to get the entire load into the hotel's single lift. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like stones. Well worth the price.
The only negative was that we visited at the beginning of the June heat wave and the temperature in the bar was very high and not at all comfortable so we had to find another watering hole.....no problem in Ludlow.

First to order but waited 25 minutes for meat ploughmans other tables served with Sunday lunch before us. One nice piece of ham, one very tough slice of beef and smallest slice of pork pie ever seen. Poor value and poor quality.
