What People are saying

Overall pleasant stay

krayfi on 18/11/2017 19:28

Traveled for the first time to Bangalore on business. Was originally concerned about the dated room comments here however, turned out to be fine for both me and my colleague who stayed in separate rooms.

Check in was pleasant, with staff advising us on more economical ways of securing rooms in future for long stay and we were thankful. We were too tired from the night flight to enjoy a welcome drink and headed straight to the rooms.

Both rooms were different in flooring - one wooden and one marbled. I requested corner rooms as they tend to be quieter however at the Taj Gateway, staff use the exit just outside our rooms quite a bit so you sometimes hear the door open and close. Not a major issue but something to note.

My colleague's room had an issue with the air conditioning which was perpetually cold and though they could not fix it, the staff brought her blankets and even a heater so she could feel better. Service was excellent in all aspects where guests made requests for a more comfortable stay. Rooms were comfortable and plenty of plugs around. If I were to be very very picky, pillow and bed can be more comfortable as I prefer puffy/down ones but they were perfectly fine for my stay.

One day I came back from work realising that a 10 cent coin in my local currency that I dropped somewhere in my room was left near the pantry. It's not significant but this speaks volumes of a hotel whose staff & housekeeping are honest and sincere.

Free wifi was available but I found it a little weak as my mails took quite a while to be sent out. It should not be an issue for general text messaging.

We ate breakfast at the hotel daily and really enjoyed the egg station. Food variety was acceptable but half of them were Indian (or somewhat) which was expected. I essentially ate almost the same items for all 4 days due to method of elimination. They do switch some dishes up each day. Not fantastic quality but acceptable. They also have a highly rated but slightly pricey restaurant in house that I never got to try.

There are quiet areas in the lobby to sit around. We got around on Uber and the hotel's staff were very helpful even in the busiest of times to direct our driver into the hotel (as roads can be messy there) while they had to manage other VIP guests & their cars. There are some nice places nearby to have some food both Indian style and western cuisines. We had no issues walking around on foot to some part of MG road and St Mark's area in the cool weather but this might not be the same for everyone.

Check out was also a non-issue and the staff (I am not good with names!) remembered us from day 1. Overall, we had good rest and stay at the Gateway :)

Good Business Hotel

Good location. Perfect room size. Stayed here for the first time and wasn't disappointed. Check in was smooth. Breakfast spread was also good except one waiter who kept annoying by pushing to eat Healthy Ragi Dosa to so many guests.

Good value, good location, a bit tired

This hotel was the Taj chain's first foray into Bengaluru way back when it was still know as Bangalore. I have stayed at many hotels throughout Bengaluru and the Gateway continues to be a good value in terms of price, helpful staff and central location.

My stays are often dictated by where my meetings are since the traffic in Bengaluru has become completely unmanageable. 30 minute trips can take 3 hours across the city. So after a 10 year hiatus I tried the Gateway again as my meetings were downtown. In general the property has held up.

Over the course of a 4 night stay the breakfast buffet held up well with enough variation. The selection was very good ranging from Indian dosas to western waffles. The cooks were extremely friendly and accommodating, cooking up chapati off menu and eggs to order. The wait staff was helpful but seemed stressed and did not smile. The fruit selection while fresh was extremely bland and the finger bananas course. The fresh orange juice while appreciated lacked sweetness or much of any flavor. That may not be the hotel's fault so I did not count it in my rating.

What did bring down my rating was the bedding. The bottom sheets were not changed unless I really made an effort to mess them up on purpose which I did on day 3. The comforter sheet cover/top sheet was not changed from the prior guest - I could tell when I pulled the cover up to my chin it smelled of man's shaving cream. I use an electric razor. The mattresses also seemed a bit tired.

But I would recommend this hotel since was a good value and clean relative to other local hotels.

The affiliated restaurant in the detached backyard area of the hotel (forgot the name) was excellent southern Indian fare. I would highly recommend this spot and will make an effort to eat here again. There were a number of dishes I had not tried before in India such as the spicy crabs and a chicken dish that had a cream cheese sauce.

MG road is a block away, a couple of modern shopping malls, Hard Rock Cafe (great burgers if you feel the need for beef, great live bands), Brigade road pubs and other good shops all in walking distance. Walk-able location is key for me.

Excellent hotel in a great location!

My third stay at this hotel and it did not disappoint. They have very courteous staff who will go out of the way to make your stay enjoyable. It's central location allow you to get to most places in reasonable time. There are multiple restaurants with all types of cuisines and stores within two minutes walk of the hotel. The spa is of good quality and very clean and hygienic. Great breakfast buffet in the morning with attentive and polite staff. Will be staying there again if in Bangalore. Highly recommend it for business or pleasure.

City centre stay

Great buffet breakfast, comfortable bed, lovely hot shower and very helpful staff! There are few places of touristic interest in this city so you should not plan to stay long. Rooms are a bit tired and as the hotel is on a main road there is no escaping the traffic pollution and noise....
