Cracking dog friendly hotel

We booked this hotel purely in the basis that it was dog friendly and close to where we needed to be early the next day. Very pleased we did!
We received a very friendly welcome and our room was comfortable.
As we were leaving before breakfast was served, we were left out cereal, toast and juice as well as a sandwich to take with us. This was much appreciated.
We didn't get chance to eat at The George but we will when we stay again. We will be back.
A bit disappointed - we won't be back

I believe in fair, honest and factual reviews - its the only way to encourage hoteliers to up their game. This George at Wath review is a mixed bag for you to consider.
The Good:
We were in the York room - it was nicely decorated, very clean and nicely presented, as was the en-suite bathroom. Similarly the main restaurant looks very smart and clean. The hotel is situated in a very quiet village in the middle of nowhere around three and a half miles from Ripon. It's like a ghost town - you should have a quient night.
The Not So Good:
The £6.95 roast Sunday Dinner (as advertised on their website) doesn't exist - it's £8.95! (at least that's what we were charged).
Whilst on the subject of food - our Sunday lunch was served at a tepid temperature and quickly went cold. The Yorkshire puds had a burned look to them and were tasteless (being in Yorkshire I was really looking forward to - and expecting a delicious Yorkshire pud - disappointing to say the least). Breakfast - not a great choice of cereals at breakfast and no fresh fruit. The sausages looked only partly cooked and the griddle used for the bacon could do with a clean - I had to clean off the bits of griddle debris from my bacon.
If you visit this hotel in cold weather be sure you are wearing your thermals - it was quite cold in the restaurant and again in the breakfast room - the heating was only turned on when we arrived to eat in both areas - that's not good enough for a supposed 4* hotel. A convector heater was provided in the bedroom - just as well, because the central heating wasn't turned on in the morning,
If you must stay here I suggest you eat out for better value - personally, we wouldn't return. Sorry "The George at Wath" I'm only commenting honestly on our experience.
great little find

Was looking for an extra night away to extend our stay in North Yorkshire. What a little gem this place is. On turning up the receptionist showed us to our room and though small it had everything we needed for a one night stay, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom more than adequate.
We had a late afternoon drink outside but the locals who were sat at the bar made us feel very welcome and even offered us food they were sharing.
We ate in the restaurant and the food was superb. I have seen mention of small portions and still feeling hungry, well I suppose it depends on how big your appetite is. We had three courses and the food was well presented and so tasty. This was high end not your general run of the mill pub food. The service was superb, with the chef coming out to chat.
Breakfast the next day was equally as good. Would we stay again? most definitely, we would book earlier and hopefully get a larger room and stay a couple of nights.
Lovely place and nice people.
Lovely

This hotel in a village lived up to it's reputation. It has been re-furbished to a high standard and the room my husband and I stayed in was clean and comfortable. As the weather was warm I asked for a lighter duvet which was duly found without any problem. The proprietor was very helpful and friendly. The evening meal was very good. The chef (son of the proprietor with 2 awards) was imaginative with the food and we enjoyed it very much. There was plenty of choice in the breakfast bar and the cooked food was good.
I would recommend this hotel for a quiet stay in the lovely countryside.
A Gem

We arrived at 1 pm, were warmly welcomed and given bags containing home made biscuit.
We hadn't realised that the check in time was 5 pm - which was a bit late for us, especially as we were going to a party at 2.30 pm! However, our rooms were ready so they let us have them at 1.45 so all ok. The rooms were very clean and comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities, very nice towels and toiletries.
A very nice place to stay and we would definitely stay there again.
