Arrived late, just as reception was closing, but received a friendly welcome, and easy check in.no bother to organise drinks- to go with our late night takeaway from over the road!
despite the party in progress in a first floor functon room, our room on the 4th floor was quiet, well decorated, decent en suite and spacious room, Dog bed and water bowl provided for our Springer Spaniel .
There is no lift , but disabled chair lift to upper rooms, stairs are wide and gentle, staff offering to assist with luggage, but the less sprightly should ask for the lower floors.
Good noghts sleep, shower a bit underpowered, but adequate.
Very good, freshly cooked breakfast, great service, and good ingrediants.
Efficient, no hassle check out.
A liveley , busy place, with a great atmosphere, parking right outside overnight, or their own car park at the rear, every member of staff had a smile or friendly comment.
Recomended.

We love staying at the George hotel, the staff are so friendly, welcoming and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The Christmas decorations are wonderful, just how one imagines a great family Christmas. Our room No 5 was lovely, spacious and so quiet. We had drinks in the bar both afternoons. Sunday was very busy and but no one was overlooked or missed. Many of the people from the remembrance service came in which was nice. Monday was a little quieter but just as jolly. Our meals both nights were wonderful. All the staff were great, remembering us from other visits, especially Adriane ? who looked after us both days.

Reassuringly old fashioned

One night mid week stay on business. Tartan carpets? leather chairs? dark wood panelling? Open fire? Ticks in all those boxes. Good breakfast (tatty scone and black pudding mmmmmm) and quiet rooms - even those overlooking the market place.

We stayed st the hotel as part of our honeymoon gift from parents an I must say the hotel was absolutely beautiful on the inside an we were well looked after, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was amazing very delicious so thank you

old outside but uptodate inside

We have just stayed there for the night. On arrival we were given instructions to find their car private carpark. Reception was efficient and friendly. The hotel maybe old on the outside but the interior is well decorated and pleasant. Public loos put many others to shame they are wonderful. Our room was very good as was the bathroom. Meals are very well presented and tasty. But if you want an evening meal in the resturant it is best to book it. Breakfast was great. The staff very pleasant and helpful. On Saturday morning the hotel is used by locals as a meeting place for tea/coffee. That shows how good it is. If that way again we would stay again.
