Wedding anniversary - return visit

Mueslimad on 20/11/2017 08:35

We first stayed at the George 5 years ago for our 10th wedding anniversary and had such a memorable time we chose to return to celebrate our 15th.

Very little had changed in five years (including the radio/iPod dock in the bedroom and TV which are now somewhat dated) - the same luxurious cosy decor - understated elegance done really well. The whole place was heaving for most of our visit - patience won out at the bar and we got a seat, and our dinner reservation was ready early and we managed to get the same wonderful table we had 5 years ago. Food at both dinner and breakfast was excellent - can heartily recommend squid, scallops and mussels.

I had a phone call a few days before to advise they’d kindly upgraded us to a junior suite from the luxury room we had booked. This was a lovely surprise and the room was huge! Much appreciated.

We chose to beat the thronging masses in the morning by going down to breakfast at 8am - had a wonderful table, spread out the papers and munched our way through a very relaxed and enjoyable hour.

Overall a wonderful stay, again! Thank you to all the staff, who were professional and friendly.

First class experience

Wonderful location. Beautifully room (we chose room 45 - a fantastic luxurious bolt-hole). Exceptional food and highly attentive (but unpretentious) staff. Warm, relaxing and beautiful surroundings. Could not recommend highly enough.

Wedding Anniversary

We recently stayed in room 41 for our Anniversary and could not have been more pleased. The room was immaculate and tucked away from any noise. The split levels in the room gave it a great sense of space and every detail was luxurious.

Staff were forever ready to assist with any needs we had at short notice.

Overall, I would really recommend this hotel. Great experience.

Well done the George

Worth a visit

Visited as a group of ten. All of our gorgeous food was served in a timely manner by some of the friendliest staff. Never seen a group of people work together in such an organised manner for a long time - also they clearly look out for one another (1 staff member appeared to hurt herself and was swarmed by others showing real concern to make sure she was ok and clear away a broken glass) it gives the whole place a warm and genuine welcoming feel!

Great venue with top notch food

Finally had lunch here last Sunday after trying to get in a couple of times before when it was fully booked. So, tip is to book in advance! It's a lovely relaxed place with friendly bar and smart but casual restaurant. Excellent food- I had half a dozen big tasty oysters and followed it with the surf and turf....perfectly cooked ribeye steak and half a local lobster. Best lunch I have had in ages. The wine list is pretty extensive and we had a carafe of really good Albarino which wasn't overpriced. Friendly and attentive service, great food and a relaxed atmosphere. What's not to like in the ancient, beautiful town of Rye.
