What People are saying

Perfect Spot for convenience of Shopping and Dining

This was a quaint little hotel. The Victorian furniture and tin ceilings are so welcoming. The hotel sits atop of Rick's Chophouse, which has THE BEST brunch I have ever had at a bargain. Although we did not eat lunch or dinner there, everyone says they are fabulous...We just have our own favorite pizza place, the Cadillac Grill, also there on the square. The hotel is convenient for all of downtown and valet parks your car for you. I would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for a girls trip or romantic getaway.

Had a client stay while in town to meet. The loved the 'lovely' hotel nestled in the middle of the restaurants and shops. 'Well done' was heard multiple times. Great meal at Rick's Chophouse! Rooms was airy and the service staff was most helpful

Beautiful Hotel, Poor plumbing

kristenc488on 08/05/2017 20:44

I stayed in the Grand Hotel this last weekend. The location was great and the hotel was nice in all the public meeting places. My room, not so much. It was pretty small and there were not really any desks or surfaces to put things. So if you wanted to put your room key and drink somewhere while in the room, it was difficult. I did get a room with a window but it was very small and looked out at a roof top. So the view left a lot to be desired. All of this I can deal with though.. The biggest problem was the shower. Or lack of a working one. I guess we stayed on the "Historic" side of the hotel so the rooms weren't as upgraded. The shower in our room would not stay at a consistent temperature. If you are familiar with older plumbing, it is the equivalent of standing in the shower while someone repeatedly flushed the toilet. Meaning you are enjoying a nice shower and then all the sudden the water is scalding hot and then freezing cold, then it goes back to normal temp. This did not happen once or twice. It happened the entire shower, so at least 6 times per 10 minute shower. I was in town for my brothers wedding and couldn't even shower in my own room because I couldn't stay under the shower long enough to even wash soap out of my hair. I had to use my mom's room on the other side of the hotel to shower. (she was on the newer side). I did report the issue but was told that the boilers were not broken and were acting as they should. Basically, nothing was wrong and this is the norm on the historic side. Not cool.

Moral of the story is: Don't stay on the historic side if you like to take showers, because you will be disappointed and there will be no compensation back when you complain.

Stayed for a wedding, would not have stayed here otherwise

Staff was unfriendly, rooms were dark (no windows in most!), and everything was rather expensive. It was nice to stay in the same venue as the wedding- the wedding and reception service were excellent! The proximity to downtown was great. If only the hotel staff didn't treat us like they were put out by our presence, this would have ranked higher

Anniversary Weekend

Looking for a quiet and different place for a weekend? Very convenient to the old town McKinney Texas square for shopping and dining? A perfect place to stay. Very clean and historic feel to the building and rooms. Nice people. Clean room. Nice bathroom and shower. Short walk to Spoons for a great brunch. Would do this again.
