Lunchtime meal

Have never been in so we decided to pop in for lunch. Menu not overly interesting but ok for lunch I guess. We ordered a soft drink and a cappuccino. There was only one person working who seemed to be doing bar, orders & waitressing. She advised she was new at all this and had never made a cappuccino....it all arrived eventually, unfortunately the coffee was luke warm. Food came and was nicely presented and apart from the very long hair found in the burger (as I said to hubby thank goodness it was a long one! 😳😂) it was pleasant enough.
Good value one night stay

One night stay for a business trip to Marlborough. Arrived early evening, didn't eat or drink in the pub and left very early next morning. Room was on the top floor (3rd) and would not be accessible to anyone with restricted mobility as it is up a steep and narrow staircase. Hallway and stairs up to room in need of renovation/smartening up but my room was very good. Lots of space very old period open fire and furniture, large comfortable bed and modern bathroom with good toiletries. The room was also spotlessly clean. Good value for a one night stay.
I just love this place

I had booked to stay here for work for two nights. The pub itself obviously had a good reputation for food as when I arrived on Sunday people were regularly coming in for lunch and the meals looked wonderful. There was a lovely open fire and comfy chairs and although this is not a big pub it felt friendly and welcoming. My room, King John was not ready when I arrived and I was given a complementary drink and lots of apologies whilst the staff made up the room. Even the manager came to see me and apologise and offered me another drink which was just lovely. When my room was ready it was so worth the wait. It was huge with a massive bed and everything you could need. The pillows were so soft and the bed really comfy. The bathroom was great with lovely toiletries. The room is in the roof with old beams and a giant fireplace. This is a very d building with all its lovely quirkiness and I loved having to walk uphill to bed as the floor slopes so much. My friend was in the Alice room which was smaller but even more charming with Alice in Wonderland references and a giant mirror. This is not in any way a run of the mill hotel. It is a unique taste of an historic building with all of its wonkiness. Please do note though that the staircase is tiny and steep so don't bring a big case! If you struggle with mobility too this may not be an ideal choice for you. The room price was also very competitive and I just adored staying here - lovely staff wonderful building and fabulously crazy rooms. I really hope I can return. This would be my 'go to' place in Marlborough.
Quirky one nighter

A bit like going down the rabbit hole. The bedroom was quirky to say the least with sloping floors and the bathroom up a short flight of stairs. Still, we like quirky. Was noisy in the evening until the pub closed but I suppose if you choose to stay in a pub on a main street. ..Would definitely benefit from thicker curtains to cut out light from the street throughout the night. Had a lovely meal in the bar in the evening and I thought breakfast was just about ok. My partner enjoyed his salmon and scrambled eggs. A definite asset to the place is Naomi who appears to turn her hand to everything, really friendly, helpful and efficient. Certainly an interesting short stay in a lovely town.
PS..the beer was on good form!

Cosy pub with lots of spread out spaces. Friendly staff always accommodating - good burger style lunch, no complaints. Large garden for the better weather. Food was served in good time although pub got much busier after 1:15 so there may have been a wait.
