Excellent. Casual or special occasion dining , superb spa and great place to visit to get away from it all. The mansion house is beautiful for bedrooms and sitting rooms below.
Visit for afternoon tea, drop in for a coffee or a meal, stay over using the Spa and choose between the indoor pool or outdoor pool. Really lovely. Dress to your style and relax.

Stayed in the standard room level "superior", the rooms are looking tired and a bit grubby. My bath robe had a dirty mark on it the first time I put it on - it clearly hadn't been washed. They still haven't sorted out the plugs situation - there are none by the bed and very few in the room. There's no mirror to dry your hair in front of - you have to stand up in front of the bathroom door. Toiletries are quite minimal, just one tiny bottle of shower/bath gel. Fire alarm went off about 7.30am, no apology for that. The lifts are very weird and dirty. The walk and lift down to the spa feels like a 2* star hotel. Service was pretty terrible (apart from room service delivery). Service in The Stables was appalling and treatment in the spa was very poor.
The hotel has definitely gone downhill and it absolutely not worth the 5* luxury price tag. It's a lovely setting and the other room types are better but the overall experience is poor.

On the outskirts of Watford, this 5 star country hotel offers a lot, but we visited only for afternoon tea. Easy to get to (from Watford and M25, with easy parking, this is an 'easy' destination.
We had pre-booked and were shown to a table with sofas in a lovely room overlooking the extensive gardens and estate. There was a choice of teas from India and China served from a tray and a selection of sandwiches, gateaux, and scones served on a 'What Not' . The waitress was friendly and knowledgable and professional.
A very enjoyable couple of hours.... Recommended

We had a lovely afternoon tea for my friends birthday at The Grove. Lovely setting and attentive staff. A special mention to Vera who was wonderful and knowledgeable.
The only moan I would have is that the sandwiches and cakes were presented on plates, not on a stand which was disappointing and less effective to the experience. The sandwiches were a little tasteless I'm afraid but the scones and cakes were lovely. I did go away feeling it was a little expensive for what it was.
I would, to be honest, give the afternoon tea three stars, but the settings and surroundings do make up for it as it is lovely and everyone is welcoming and it is lovely to have a walk around too.
Not sure I would visit again for the tea, sorry.

Absolutely first class in every way. Surroundings, Service, room, food. Faultless. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to use the spa but had a peek and will most definitely be back to try. Gorgeous breakfast buffet with everything you could want.
