Don Son 08/10/2017 10:36Front of house & kitchen staff knowledgeable about Gluten Free. Just changed ownership, which would seem like a bad thing, however they are well on there way to success. Considering they are less than a month in.
“The most tender & juicy chicken breast ever had”. Also, “The meat pie was full of flavour & was most filling”

What a disappointment!
Yorkie545on 01/10/2017 17:59Having previously been to this location we decided on suggestion from a fairly local to the venue - friend: for the four of us to visit for a special birthday celebration meal. Rang two days before and booked a table for four at 7pm, we were not informed of any issues at all. Arrived to find the venue very quiet and a person who turned out to be a 'Stand in Manager' greeted us and enquirer if we had cash to pay as card machines were not working. That should have rung alarm bells! We went to the Restaurant part to find we were the only people in. Staff came and took our orders including starters. Whilst waiting we were becoming colder and enquirer if the heating was working. We requested to go to the Bar area where we expected it to be warmer. How wrong we were and remained with our jackets on. The starters came and were pleasant. We then waited for the main courses. What a disappointment - I had ordered Sirloin steak - medium rare. It was reasonable well cooked but the skin side was full of a large piece of gristle extending the full length of the steak. Obviously not edible. It formed a large part of the steak making it poor value. My wife had what was mince type meat and potatoe pie. There must have been nearly five times more pastry than meat. It didn' t taste very good. She never the less ate most of the meat but left most of the pastry. We left after the meal and a couple of drinks, not very impressed. There was no atmosphere and staff not overly interested or checking on welfare and if everything OK. Then ended up paying cash - payment of just under £100 and no receipt given. Very poor all round and when wife rang to complain a couple of days latter Stand in Manager claimed nothing he could do and to contact impending Manager.

Sarah Bon 28/08/2017 22:53Booked ahead. Table for 6 was ready in bar when we arrived. It was very quiet but more families followed us in as well as lots of locals! We had chosen to sit in the bar but there was a restaurant side as well. New owner and we were a little apprehensive but had no reason to be. Owner, who was working tirelessly and by himself, was very knowledgeable about his food and wine which was great for my partner who is gluten intolerant. Owner told us that most of the menu was suitable and that next week there would be gf lasagne. The food was delicious pub food. Huge portions and very reasonable! We will definitely be back thank you!
Disappointing
gmilligan468on 17/07/2017 21:30Was expecting it to be a bustling olde world ambience no atmosphere at all, dogs I like, Bailey the resident choc Labrador is fine old boy, the place in general was tired and shabby, no food available on my night no reason given or asked, Breakfast no where near as sumptuous as reported but for £65 can't get cheaper won't be back though

mike_garleyon 12/07/2017 18:10Decent pub with its internal walls covered with all sorts of odd,quirky, amusing notices. If you are staying there, generally very quiet in the evenings. Good reasonably priced bedrooms with very good full English breakfast (plus juice, cereals and fruit) included in the price. Certainly dog friendly - although we didn't have one we were about the only guests who didn't. I think I would give it a "very good" rating if it wasn't for one thing - contrary to the bulk of other reviews we were very disappointed in the only evening meal we had there. Tough and overcooked steak, poor scampi and greasy chips. Maybe we just hit a bad night, but we ate elsewhere for the other nights of our 3 night stay
