Everything stated about this guesthouse is true, you can enjoy short bread and all the other refreshments promised. Breakfast is served at the magnificent eco pool and again this was real 5 star treatment.

Beautiful place, amazing service. Owners are so welcoming and informative, definitely coming back with friends. Beautiful garden, with wide array of flowers and roses. Naturally filtered pool. Deck chairs to relax in, beautiful bird life and the cutest cat.
Not a warm welcome

We stayed here for only one night part of a tour of SA to celebrate my husbands "big" birthday. We had a long journey that day & ended up a little lost. We were tired & hungry on arrival.
We arrived in the dark at 8.30pm After several rings of the bell & us shouting "is anyone there?" We were greeted with the owners voice "where have you been?. I was shocked!! (as I work in hospitality & rudeness is totally unacceptable) . I explained we had got lost etc & could he help us find an evening meal? He said no one in SA drove after dark,& by now (I stress 8.30pm) the village would be in bed!!!
We then got shown to our rooms, which were acceptable & very clean. The bathroom & products were lovely. The free mini bar a nice touch. He did then help us by ringing a few restaurants & secured us a reservation. The meal was very average, expensive too by SA standards,in comparison to the amazing food we had in the other places.
Breakfast was taken in front of the Eco pool in the gardens. On a positive note the garden & breakfast area was stunning! One of the best ever. Jackie was lovely & very helpful. The breakfast was mediocre. The eggs were not particularly well cooked, the bacon rolled up but not to our taste. In our opinion more of a 3 star for food, certainly not 5 star. We travel a lot & have stayed in many places all over the world. The accommodation /food in the other 4 establishments was certainly 4/5 star.
Again on a positive Stephen did provide a very detailed route for us the morning after. I just think he needs to be mindful he us providing a service to the guest . It was the only disappointing stay in a fabulous trip .
A true gem and a real Hideaway!

Our recent 2-day stay in the Hideaway was a highlight of our 3 week holiday in South Africa from UK. So glad we chose to stop in the very nice town of Swellendam, and Stephen and Jackie provided true 5-star service: the Hideaway is very well appointed with lovely, clean rooms set in the stunning garden they have created with its extraordinarily beautiful eco swimming pool. They provide many extras including a free mini-bar in the room containing water, soft drinks and beer, and of course a range of teas. To cap it all they serve guests with a glass of wine by the pool in the evening before one goes out to supper. Breakfast is very special home cooking, and Stephen has an extensive briefing of things to do in the lovely town and surrounding area. They will surprise you with other welcome extras.
We strongly recommend The Hideaway - nothing is too much trouble for this delightful couple and their first-class Guest House.

A wonderful place with an outstanding rose garden (beautiful even in autumn), a beautiful natural pool, very friendly and helpful host. Situated in a peaceful little historical town with museum, nice houses and good restaurants.
