My husband and I are staying here. Beautiful room, wonderful staff, clean and comfy. Besides that, you are about 1.5 blks from Union Station. So the metro can get you to all the sites. You can also walk to the Capitol and the Mall about 1/4 of a mile. Besides that, there is a fantastic French restaurant here -- Bistro Bis! So nice to have a fantastic meal good wine and then go up stairs and climb in to a comfy bed in a quiet room. Perfect!

We chose this particular Kimpton because it received the best reviews of all the others and, we had previously stayed in a Kimpton in Philadelphia.
Unfortunately as a 'luxury' hotel it's perfectly adequate but it in no way compares to the collective ambience, decor, quirkiness and location of Kimpton Philadelphia.
The non historic building is ideally located for Union Station and you can see the Capitol building at the top of the road; with the National Mall located just a few blocks away.
The small lobby with seating attempts at some relevant inventive DC art work but it's the same theme repeated throughout the hotel.
There is complimentary flavoured water available and between 5 and 6, there is a complimentary wine hour. Complimentary bottled water is available but you need to ask for it as it's kept behind the reception desk.
Off the lobby there is an underused lounge and a mezzaine level with some tables and chairs. Initially upon arriving there was an odd but not unpleasant smell which repeated itself in the corridors and our room. We quickly got used to it and assumed it must be from one of the cleaning products.
In the basement there are toilets, an atm and a small but adequate fitness room.
Within the hotel there is Bistro Bis restaurant, which we did not try but looked well visited.
Our room was a fair size with the same quirky DC themed decor, from the artwork, to the wallpaper and cushions. The bed was large and comfortable but the four pillows varied from soft to lumpy hard. There was a sofa, two small seating squares and a desk with chair. The tv was large sized. The wardrobe was an ok size and included a yoga mat and an ironing board; along with a safe. There was though only two small drawers and the bedside tables had none.
The expensive mini bar was well stocked and you receive a complimentary $10 bar credit. Wifi is also complimentary and worked with very little drop out.
The bathroom was large with a separate bath and shower. The shower had fixed bottles for soap, shampoo and conditioner which fustratingly barely delivered any liquid due to the poor design and we ended up buying our own.
The sink unit is large with plenty of space as the sink itself is tiny.
The sole electrical socket was loose and not working.
Despite being on the seventh floor and facing inwards, we could see very clearly into the rooms opposite; the traffic noise was significant, lots of sirens. We then had the droning from the air conditioning.
All in all an adequate hotel not a luxury one, especially when some nights, with tax included, the cost was approaching $400. And one day our room wasn't even serviced.
On a separate note and not the hotel's fault but as every govt. building involves x-ray machines and scanners, our key cards failed every day. Save yourself the bother of having to go up to your room and then back down to reception by getting them re-activated as you enter the hotel.

This was my favourite hotel. The location is fantastic with Union Station and Capitol Hill in close walking distance. The hotel room itself was very clean and spacious and the bathroom was beautiful. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they had happy hours in the lobby every day serving red and white wine. Would definitely stay here again.

This is located in the center of town, very close to the Capitol, Union Station, the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court. The hop on hop off buses leave from Union Station. Parking was just across the street and not too expensive. It's not too far from the mall either. The restaurant at the corner close by was a good breakfast stop. They serve lunch there too. Union Station has many choices of eating plans.

I spent one night here on business. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming. Although I did not partake, the team manning the wine hour bar enthusiastically encouraged me to enjoy some complimentary wine. The room was well appointed. Fun furnishings and a comfortable bed. The bathroom amenities were high quality. Room had lots of neat touches like animal print robes and a convenient yoga mat. Had dinner at the French restaurant in the lobby and was pleasantly surprised by the outstanding meal we had -- really outstanding food and exemplary service. Would definitely stay here again.
