Enjoyable Stay at the Pegasus

Joni-Gaye C on 20/11/2017 20:49

The Pegasus Hotel is in the heart of New Kingston, within walking distance of shops and a Supermarket. It is right across from Emancipation Park, so fitness enthusiasts can go for that early morning or evening jog.

I enjoyed my stay at the Pegasus. The bedroom was comfortable, the bathroom was spotlessly clean. I made full use of the gym facilities.

The breakfast was delicious. I would recommend the Pegasus as a great place to stay in Kingston, it is a little more expensive than some other hotels but it is worth the spend.

Quick visit

The hotel took in my coworkers eagerly when the Courtleigh was oversold during Jamaican Music Conference. The hotel did a great job of making the team feel at home. Thank you for being so kind and courteous with those who needed to be relocated.

The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel

My husband and I have stayed here several times, and this time was better. The hotel is being upgraded and the rooms are more comfortable. You can request a room with a balcony so you can enjoy the view of Kingston at night with all its sparkling city lights. During the day, sitting on the balcony is noisy with all of the Kingston traffic. They serve a great Sunday brunch and they have great breakfasts. It comes with 24 hour room service and the wait is not long for room service.

Overpriced for subpar service

I have spent quite a bit of time at The Jamaica Pegasus Hotel over the years, often as a client of its restaurants and cafe, or as a guest or performer at one of the many functions it hosts - from New Years Eve balls to ceremonies, weddings and conferences. For over 10 years, my colleagues and I had found its 24hour cafe to be very conducive to hosting small creative and planning meet-ups surrounding the performing arts. During these, coffee, tea and bites to eat flowed because, in spite of the higher 'hotel' prices charged, the atmosphere was always vibrant and was, for the most part, a productive and pleasant one.

Most recently, however, during a very productive moment of my scheduled meet-up, I was interrupted by a gentleman who I assumed worked on the management side of things. He brusquely told our table that the cafe was reserved for hotel guests to dine and so we were to "hurry up and finish whatever we were doing" so that we could vacate the space and move to the lobby. I advised him that his assumption was incorrect; the table had indeed purchased from the posted menu and had planned to order more items during the evening. With that, his rudeness receded only slightly as he suggested that he "wasn't trying to give us a hard time," but that he had been getting many complaints from hotel guests about a lack of space - despite the fact that there were at least 3 vacant tables around us. The Pegasus, you see, has become a favourite hub for Jamaican creatives, students, entrepreneurs and freelancers to meet each other over a meal and to hatch ideas and projects which, at the end of the day, only help to increase the country's cultural and economic capital. Until that 'rude' awakening, I thought that the hotel embraced its role in this.

I later learned that the gentleman who interrupted our meeting was the General Manager of the establishment and I was quite disappointed to think that his many years of international hotelier experience have not made him more welcoming to ALL guests equally and further, have not made him cognisant of the importance of his local 'guests' to the continued success of the Pegasus brand. When the occupancy is not booming, the local 'guests' are still very present, keeping the JAMAICA Pegasus running, one expensive cup of tea at a time.

Nice hotel if you don't want to sleep

The hotel rooms on the club floor are very nice. The breakfast and cocktail hour for the club floors is great. The worse thing about this hotel was the location of my room. My room was the last room on the 14th floor close to the ice machine which was not the problem. This hotel hosts alot of local functions including music....loud music heard on the 14th floor. One night music didn't stop until 3 am. I called the operator the next night (Thursday) at 11pm to ask them to turn down which they did. Friday music continued until 2am and Saturday the music was loud but something like fireworks was going off at 330 am. So if you want a quiet room don't stay here.
