Historic, Friendly B&B in WV
UnderwaterBrianon 04/11/2017 22:08We stayed here 3 nights while visiting the area with our family. We were made to feel very welcome, and enjoyed the excellent breakfasts. The house is beautiful, and completely restored with all modern conveniences. The location is excellent for getting to the local sites, and is in walking distance of the best local restaurants. We plan to return again.
WONDERFUL INN AND INN KEEPER!!!
Cheryl Bon 03/11/2017 17:14We have stayed several times with Bernie. Wonderful stay each time. This time we stayed in the loft. Accommodated us and our friends well. Clean environment. Beds comfortable. Breakfast was great. We loved the outside seating on the porch and back decks. Great town with lots to do. Bernie is very accommodating and personable, which we love. Recommend staying here. Bernie's standards are high and we appreciate it, we are Inn Keepers ourselves so we know how good this place is.
Awful, gross, and shabby
lvsbirdon 17/10/2017 18:54Room was at top of 2 flights of very steep stairs. The bed was not comfortable. Shower had mold all around, so skipped showering. Ceilings so low could not stand upright by either bed. Whole property needs total renovation. Outside smelled like cats sprayed, and gardens needed help. Breakfast was some unidentifiable stuff. Not fresh. So sorry. Will never go back.
All the best features of a B&B
Ellen Hon 12/08/2017 15:32When I stay at a B&B, I am looking for charm, places to sit and relax outside the room, a good breakfast, and a personal touch. This place had all of them. The inn is a lovely, well-maintained Queen Anne era building that is charmingly decorated. The large porch was a wonderful place to sit and relax--with rocking chairs and especially in the early evening before the bugs came out. The two "living rooms" were both comfortable. The place is stocked with games--and the Scrabble even has the paper to keep score. Our room had a shared bath, but we were only sharing the shower and it was never a problem. The bed was firm and comfortable and the room had a chair and adequate lighting.
The breakfast was good--especially the fruit french toast dishes. My husband is a vegetarian and the owner, Bernie, was very sweet about accommodating him. Note that breakfast is basically served from 8 to 9:30 and you will need to plan accordingly. The coffee comes out at 7:15 or so. (As the resident early riser, I appreciated the early coffee.)
Bernie is very knowledgeable about the area and even loaned us an audio CD to use as we were self-touring the gorge. The place has a surprising number of good restaurants around. Bernie's helper, Peyton, was very sweet and helpful as well.
The floors do creak at night but that is to be expected in an old house.
