Leaking villa
Hannah Bon 05/11/2017 21:21After reading the reviews here, I chose to book a 3 bedroom villa through the booking.com for $541 a night, even though I was offered a much lower price by private own villa hosts, thinking it’d be better service for my family
Well, it turned out a huge disappointment. The first impression of pretty landscaping and nice clean house was quickly changed to a eh when I found the moldy grout behind the bathtub. Anyway, no big deal. We got settled in, got the char coal grill that was ordered the day before in, then it was raining harder, little niece found a puddle on the floor to play with it. Lol. Water was coming down into the foyer through a long crack of the wall. Called front desk, they sent staff in to clean. Hence the red bucket! The 30$ grill renting fee was waved for inconvenience after I asked him to talk to the manager. Big deal. By the time we found another leaking spot in a bedroom, it was too late for the kids to go anywhere else, so we decide to let it go. I The vacation turned out to be a running after 3-4 years old kids making sure would not fall on the slippery floor. No fun.
Breakfast was not good. No taste at all. Flies were seen on the fruit dish. I got a chopstick that was covered in something looked like dried omelette. My brother in law got stomachache/ diarrhea the whole morning.
Not recommended for a rainy day.
Amazing place with an awesome beach
ChaseHKon 29/10/2017 07:06A few friends and I went to Da Nang on a weekend trip and stayed here. It was an awesome place. The villas were top notch, pools great, and the ocean just right down the street. The staff in the reception villa were always willing to help and give recommendations. Definitely a place to stay when in Da Nang
A Perfect Family Holiday
NO Xon 24/10/2017 05:13Over the last 4 years, my wife and I have been on many holidays with our 2 girls (4.5 and 1.5) and this is by far the best holiday we have had. It is the combination of the wonderful and friendly Hoi An and Da Nang city that is only 20 minutes by taxi, with each journey costing around (USD12) and there is also a free shuttle that departs the resort daily at 10.30am and 4.30pm to Hoi An. Firstly, the Ocean Villa resort, what a great 5 star home away from home ambience. Everything in the villa was great from the private plunge, to outdoor furniture to the ice making fridge, to the room service menu, to the staff, and to cap it off...the charcoal BBQ that you can book that gets delivered to our outdoor plunge pool area and it even comes with staff who gets the coals going to collecting it the next morning. You can either choose from a selection of meats/seafood from the BBQ menu, which is a little pricey but the convenience factor was superb (which we did on one night but decided to try the local markets for fresh seafood and produce ourselves for the other 2 BBQ occasions, yes, 3 nights of charcoal BBQ when we were there for 6 nights)
We had breakfast every morning at the White Caps restaurant which is situated in by the main pool and beach, what a great view. Breakfast selection is somewhat limited but adequate and of good quality, the type of sausages changes daily which is awesome.
So here is the breakdown of our trip if you want tips of making your Ocean Villa/Hoi An/Da Nang stay super awesome.
We were there for 6 nights (Sat-Fri)
Day 1 - we arrived from Da Nang international airport at 1.00pm and had arranged for the Ocean Villa transfer for VND800,000 (USD37) but now we know that the 'green' taxis are all metered and drivers are honest, it will only cost you around VND350,000 (USD15) and it's only a 25min journey. We arrived at the Reception Villa just on 3.00pm and staff were friendly, courteous and efficient and we were taken to our villa promptly after check in. They showed us around and left us to it. We then decided we needed some food and walked to the restaurant and ordered the local cuisine and it was delicious, especially the rice spring rolls (Banh Xeo). After lunch we decided we needed booze (a mistake we made by not buying at duty free), milk, snacks, mosquito coils/repellent and other bits. So we hopped on the 4.30pm shuttle to Hoi An city to look for a minimart/supermarket - this is a mistake, there is no supermarket in Hoi An, they only have little minimarts and buying wine/spirits is quite pricey, but we bought a bottle of bubbles and whiskey/ginger ale to tie us over for the night. then we grabbed a green taxi and headed back for dinner. We sat by our plunge pool and ordered room service.
Day 2 - breakfast at 7am and after we called for a taxi via reception to take us to a supermarket in Da Nang (Lotte Mart) to get our supplies of snacks, alcohol, mosquito coils and repellent (get these if you are spending the evening outside by the plunge pool, there wasn't many mossie but it helps to keep flying bugs away). Lotte Mart seems to be open from 8.30am. When we got back, we dropped the shopping and jumped on the 10.30am shuttle to Hoi An, and from where the shuttle drops you off, it's only a couple of minutes walk to the ancient city which is by the river, and lined with trinkets shop, bars, restaurants, more restaurants, bars, bicycles for hire.....it's a whole different world in there. Got back to the resort around 3pm and had ordered room service for dinner and the wife took advantage of the 20% discount spa voucher.
Day 3 - breakfast at 7.30am and back to the plunge pool for a dip with the kids and back on the 10.30am shuttle to Hoi An.....(we did this everyday of our stay) It was wonderful. Day 3 was the first night we hired the charcoal BBQ and ordered the meats/seafood from the menu selection provided in the villa) everything was fresh and prepared and seasoned with a selection of sauce and condiments included.
Day 4 - we needed more alcohol and snacks, so back we went after breakfast to Lotte Mart (this time we bought seafood, meat and marshmallows for BBQ) and walked around Da Nang city and sampled the local Vietnamese coffee, returned to the villa and spent the afternoon in the plunge pool. We booked a dinner river cruise on the Hoi An river (with Cinnamon Cruises). The dinner cruise starts at 5pm and ends at 7pm. A great experience to see Hoi An at night with all the colourful lights. We left the villa at 4.00pm to give us sometime before boarding the cruise. Dinner on the cruise was a relaxed 5 dining course affair, with a cocktail, appetisers, main courses and dessert and added bonus of a floating candle lantern that you release onto the river from the boat.
Day 5 - the same routine....breakfast in the morning and out to Hoi An on the 10.30am shuttle to explore, eat and lots of cocktails and back to the villa around 3pm to laze around the plunge pool and dinner with the charcoal BBQ with the seafood/meats/marshmallows we bought from Lotte Mart the day before. Joyous toasting marshmallows.
Day 6 - similar routine....breakfast in the morning, trotted and played on the beach then took a taxi the local 'Bac My An' markets (and we mean 'local') here you get fresh seafood, meats, veggies, frogs if you so desire.....we didn't opt for the frogs but we did get clams, crabs, fish, scallops, prawns, pork and eggplant for our 3rd night of BBQ. back to the villa by 10am and off we went to Hoi An on the 10.30am shuttle once again, back to the villa around 2pm and lazed by the plunge pool.
Day 7 - after 6 joyous nights, we did NOT want to leave...... but it was time to go home, so we called for a taxi to the Da Nang airport at 9.00am for our midday flight. Check out was a breeze, just remember to bring your minibar checklist if you have consumed anything the night before (otherwise you will need to wait for them to send someone over to your villa to check)
So there you go, Ocean Villa is the place to go if you are planning a trip to either Hoi An or Da Nang. We never once had any complaints and the plunge pool is just luxurious because we never had to leave our villa and we never used the main pool, unfortunately the ocean was pretty choppy during our stay so we couldn't swim because the lifeguards had the red flags out but the beach is clean, quiet and private.
Ocean Villas and Hoi An - we will definitely be back soon. We just lazed around so much by the plunge pool and in Hoi An ancient city that we didn't get to explore the beaches in Da Nang or the other sights like My Son or the marble temple or monkey temple.....etc
Last thing - some units are privately owned so be careful when you are booking from AirBnB websites or get placed by Ocean Villa because you may get noisy neighbours (fortunately for us the units on one side was privately owned but not occupied, and the other is managed by Ocean Villas - but on our 4th night 2 villas away there was a large group in a privately owned villa that was partying with loud music, so I just walked over, showed them my bulging biceps and told them to turn the music down, which fortunately they did, and that is my only complain.
A gem
Regestam Kon 21/10/2017 10:40This hostel is definitely worth a visit on its own. I felt like we stay at one of the luxurious villa. The place has a large wooden tiled common space and plenty of space to relax and mingle with people. This is definitely a gem on its own
Pretty good for price
Kate Lon 15/10/2017 10:46Located between danang city and hoi an, so should take taxi to go restaurant and attraction, but very quite and great for family vacation.
Villa was pretty clean and full kitchen but seems a little bit old.
Breakfast was simple but okay, and beautiful beach and right beside of danang golf club, so golf buggy came to pick us in front our villa.
Compare with other danang pool villa, pretty reasonalbe price.
