Best value in Shrewsbury

The Old Post Office is the best value B+B in town. It's location right in the centre of the old town is fantastic, but it is only a pub B+B, so keep your expectations realistic. Beware, however, that when it says "FREE WI-FI", there is absolutely no Wi-Fi signal in the rooms, only in the bar, which is far from ideal. During my stay, the television signal was also cut off for hours.
Re visit 2 years on

Looked forward to returning here. The welcome was lovely - the bar staff are great here. Checked in and reserved a table for 11 of us (again we had 5 out of the 6 rooms). Good beer on, and thatchers gold cider. Most of us had the 2 for £12 meal offer, very good portions and good tasty food. 3 had steak, this took longer to arrive but once there, no complaints.
Some of the rooms here are ensuite, ours had the bathroom situated in the corridor. But it was ours and lockable from the outside, clean and hot shower. Our room was basic but comfortable, and had its own sink. Breakfast was ok, tasty and cooked ok. Sadly i noted that there still isn't vegetarian sausages on the vegetarian breakfast - most places include these. All in all this is a nice place, good value for money but it is tired and could do with a bit of love, and maintenance - the heating doesn't seem to work anywhere!
A Good Stop for Lunch

I haven’t been to this pub for about forty years, I used to visit for lunch when I worked in Shrewsbury back in the 70’s. I found myself back in town and decided to pay a visit.
I found it well run with attentive staff. I ordered a bacon and Brie sandwich, which was delicious and hot. I also ordered a bowl of chips to go with it but was not aware that the sandwich came with chips. Therefore, I had too many chips! Mind you, they were delicious. It may have stated on the menu the sandwiches came with chips but it was not obvious.
It may not be the pub I knew forty years ago but it remains a good stop for lunch.
Lovely Break

As a treat my husband booked us a couple of nights away in Shrewsbury, a lovely town of small independent shops, perfect for Christmas shopping. He had worked in Shrewsbury some years previously and knew of The Old Post Office. It was a posting house from the 16th century and the building reflects this quirky Tudor layout. As you would expect no lifts here so you need to be able to walk up to your room. We are in our early 70s and experienced no problems. Our room was a twin and the private bathroom was across the corridor, not really a deal breaker, just part of the character of the building. Both the bedroom and bathroom were very clean and user friendly. The bath towels were of a decent size, nothing worse than small towels. The shower was hot and stimulating. There is a kettle with tea and coffee available with biscuits, really nice biscuits too not the usual boring shortbread. We both had a comfortable nights sleep and the breakfasts in the morning was comprehensive with something for most tastes. When we arrived we had a late lunch that was delicious and filling. I had the steak and ale pie with hand cut chips, my husband had the fish and chips, £12 for the two meals. The meals were delicious, I'm not much of a chip person but credit where credit is due. For lunch today we have shared a gammon, pineapple and cheese melt sandwich with chips and salad. They certainly believe in giving value for money. The staff have all been friendly and helpful. I would recommend this establishment if you enjoy character, quirky with friendly service and beautiful food at a price that is easy on your pocket.
A quiet haven in the middle of an olde worlde town centre

Surprisingly quiet and tranquil, this place is very peaceful and the room I was in was clean and tidy. However, I would have liked some fresh fruit for breakfast and the mattress was adequate but not comfortable enough for me personally.
