I admittedly only go to Bakersfield for business. When I do, my favorite place to stay is the Padre Hotel. After the oftentimes brutal drive from LA, the Padre offers a refreshingly modern take on an old school (reportedly haunted) classic hotel. The staff is very helpful - the bar, coffee shop, and restaurant all have good food. Be ready for some HUGE Bakersfield portions at the bar! The rooms have recently been refurbished and the decor is spot on. In a city filled with undistinguishable mid-level chain hotels, the Padre is a welcome respite at a reasonable price to spend a couple of nights.

We stayed for one night in November. We actually booked the hotel in the night of check in, once we had a problem with our reservation at another hotel. And it was the best thing that could have happened.
Pros:
- hotel is modern, trendy, and new. Overall decor is very tastefull
- Room was clean and comfortable and very modern, with a wall off glass through the shower to the bedroom.
-staff was helpful
- theres a restaurant, a sports pub and a coffee in the ground floor. We had dinner at the pub and the food was very good. The baby ribs were excellent.
- probably the best hotel in the area
Cons:
- the don't have parking, but the have valet for only 10$ which i guess is ok.
- breakfast is not included
- Room rate was around 170$ which might be high for a this specific town

We’ll be staying here next time we visit Bakersfield. It’s a very nice place where it’s happening. Love the service the staff provided. The room that had was corner king suite and it was first class. My wife enjoyed it.

I've stayed at The Padre 4 or 5 times while visiting friends and family in Bakersfield. The place is great, reasonably priced for what you get. Can usually get some sort of discount on the rates if you call. Padre restaurants are good too, and there are plenty more within a block or two of the hotel. Cool bars, some shops and the historic FOX theater all in walking distance. I don't get all the complaints from other reviewers. Rooms too small: the "40 winks" is the basic room/least expensive and it's perfectly fine for 2 people for a night or two. The hotel lists the square footage of each room type on their site. If you want a larger room, book a larger room. No views? Um, your in Bakersfield buddy, not Tahiti. You'd be looking down at a strip mall parking lot or a freeway at other hotels. I like the gritty downtown city views. Bed uncomfortable/pillows uncomfortable: please princess. The beds and sheets are great. If you're that picky about pillows then your should be bringing your own. Only valet parking: Nope. Unload and go park your own car on the street (just be sure to read the signs and check with the desk about where you can park, when you could get a ticket and when you don't have to worry about it). We've always found parking close to the hotel on the street, never had to pay and never been ticketed. Rude staff: that has not been our experience at all. They have always been professional and helpful (what's that rule again? Treat others as you want to be treated). This place is a favorite of our. Stay here if you're going to Bake-o!

I stayed here on business recently and was pleasantly surprised by the stylish decor and the nice bar and restaurants here. The furnishings in the room are simple yet nice. The thing that goes over the mattress was a tad too soft for me but otherwise the bed was comfortable. The food was great downstairs, and they all had a nice jibe.
