Looking for an economical place to stay for a couple of nights whilst attending a family celebration in the area, we might easily have settled for one of the popular chain hotels (except that they were really too far away to be convenient) when online searches led to the Plough.
It's not fancy, very much the village pub with a few bedrooms, and we did have the only one (of three) rooms with its own bathroom. But we weren't disappointed as our room was clean and comfortable, the people friendly and the location suited our needs.
Unlike some larger establishments where a buffet style breakfast is prepared in advance and laid out to select from - and possibly to get cold - the Plough's "full English" was freshly cooked to order from the menu tick sheet we were invited to fill in the evening before. Sunday roast dinner was available from mid-day up to 6pm and that, too, was well cooked with a good range of vegetables and, of course, Yorkshire pudding with generous portions of everything at a very keen price (can't bear to call it "cheap" simply because it sounds - well "cheap"!)
Wifi was not only free but fast enough for anything I needed to do.
Good value all round.

We stopped for a drink whilst out on a walk recently. The bar area lacked atmosphere, seating was functional rather than comfy and in general the decor was drab. Service functional rather than friendly.

Ate here for a midweek lunch.
We had lasagne, chips & garlic bread and Chilli con carne with chips.
Both were delicious, especially the home made chips.
Pub was quite busy which I think shows it is good.

Whilst staying for a few days in Whitby 6 of us visited the Plough.We had to book as it was really busy.The offer of steak for 2 people and a bottle of wine for about £30 was great value.Two of us had the turkey and leek pie which was yummy.
The quiz was fun although we did not win and the atmosphere was warm and friendly.
I can thoroughly recommend The Plough and will be returning as soon as possible.

If you're looking for a warm, friendly welcome and a plate FULL of home cooked food at a reasonable price then this one's for you. There were 4 real ales on (much to my partners delight), it's dog and child friendly and seemed to be a favorite with the locals. If however you prefer pretentious 'Gastro Pub' style then go elsewhere and it's your loss.
